Apple Faces Up<\/strong> is a Japanese indie puzzle game similar to Scribblenauts and Baba Is You, using words to turn the laws of the world on their head. As an amnesiac protagonist, you face 13 trials bestowed by the female angel Mimir, which are separated into different rooms in the mysterious Infinite Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Infinite Library houses a vast array of books that contain rules on all physical phenomena and natural laws of the past, present, and future. Gameplay revolves around changing these rules by replacing words in books scattered around the levels with different ones. For example, swapping the word \u201capple\u201d with \u201croom\u201d in the phrase \u201cthe room is small and calm\u201d causes an apple to shrink. Likewise, swapping the word \u201capple\u201d with \u201cthought\u201d in a phrase that describes the latter word as \u201cspinning\u201d causes an apple to spin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re wondering why \u201capple\u201d is used so much, that\u2019s because every room starts you off with that one word. Aside from being the game\u2019s title, this is likely a reference to the protagonist\u2019s amnesia. To expand your vocabulary, you must search the rooms for books that contain new words. Doing so will let you do cooler things like turn whole rooms upside down or cause items to spawn. Not all of these actions are solutions though, so you must decipher the theme behind each room to find a way forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joining your journey is Mimir, who serves as a guide through the game\u2019s many puzzles. As you complete trials, the story behind her motives and the Infinite Library slowly unravel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
