Earlier in July, Spike Chunsoft announced that Danganronpa 2×2<\/strong>, an expanded remake of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, would have its release delayed from 2026 to 2027. In a new Crunchyroll<\/a> interview, producer Shohei Sakakibara and series creator Kazutaka Kodaka talked about the reasons behind the delay, with one of them being the release of Grand Theft Auto VI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Sakakibara, the delay would provide more development time. Based on the original July announcement, this would allow the devs to bring players the \u201cbest possible experience.\u201d He also cited the team\u2019s desire to avoid Danganronpa 2×2\u2019s launch coinciding with \u201ca certain AAA\/AAAA title that would be releasing soon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked if the title in question was Grand Theft Auto VI, Kodaka laughed while chiming in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t have time to make the game while playing Grand Theft Auto VI, so it was inevitable that we moved the release time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There you have it. While the dev team is still hard at work on Danganronpa 2×2, it\u2019s safe to say that at least one of them (that being the franchise\u2019s creator, no less) will be tearing it up in Rockstar Games\u2019 latest open-world game when it launches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Danganronpa 2\u00d72 is set to release in 2027 for PC (Steam<\/a>, Epic Games Store), Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
