The bank&nbsp;has&nbsp;refused&nbsp;to&nbsp;disclose&nbsp;the reason behind the decision.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nupuryu&nbsp;is the creator of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/1078280\/Ruins_Seeker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ruins Seeker<\/a>, an adult action RPG released on&nbsp;the domestic game platform&nbsp;DLsite&nbsp;in 2019, followed by Steam and GOG releases in 2020. The current issue revolves&nbsp;around the Steam version, which is published internationally by&nbsp;US-based publisher&nbsp;Kagura Games.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the developer writes in an X post from July 30,&nbsp;Rakuten Bank, one of Japan&#8217;s biggest online banks, has blocked a remittance&nbsp;(presumably related&nbsp;to revenue from the game&#8217;s sales) from their overseas publisher. &#8220;I guess it really may be their policy to just not&nbsp;accept international transfers related to R-rated games.&nbsp;It&#8217;s&nbsp;the co-called debanking issue, but information on the topic is hard&nbsp;to&nbsp;come by.&nbsp;I&#8217;ll&nbsp;be sharing what I find out,&#8221; they wrote.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"ja\" dir=\"ltr\">\u697d\u5929\u9280\u884c\u304b\u3089\u6d77\u5916\u306e\u30d1\u30d6\u30ea\u30c3\u30b7\u30e3\u30fc\u304b\u3089\u306e\u9001\u91d1\u306e\u53d7\u3051\u53d6\u308a\u65ad\u3089\u308c\u305f\u2026<br>\u3046\u30fc\u3093\u3001\u3084\u3063\u3071\u697d\u5929\u9280\u884c\u306fR18\u30b2\u30fc\u30e0\u306e\u6d77\u5916\u9001\u91d1\u306f\u57fa\u672c\u53d7\u3051\u53d6\u3063\u3066\u304f\u308c\u306a\u3044\u65b9\u91dd\u3063\u307d\u3044\u306a\u3041<br><br>\u3044\u308f\u3086\u308b\u30c7\u30d0\u30f3\u30ad\u30f3\u30b0\u554f\u984c\u306a\u3093\u3060\u3051\u3069\u3001\u3053\u3053\u3089\u3078\u3093\u306e\u60c5\u5831\u3063\u3066\u4e2d\u3005\u51fa\u3066\u3053\u306a\u3044\u306e\u3067\u60c5\u5831\u767a\u4fe1\u3057\u3066\u3044\u304d\u307e\u3059\u3002<br>\u6b21\u306e\u624b\u7d9a\u304d\u3084\u2026<\/p>&mdash; \u306c\u3077\u7adc (@nupuryu) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nupuryu\/status\/2082607430761116111?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 29, 2026<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nupuryu\/status\/2082632576234405923?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">follow-up post<\/a>, Nupuryu mentions visiting&nbsp;their&nbsp;bank over the issue and providing them with&nbsp;a copy of their contract with their publisher which&nbsp;details the various terms of the agreement and game title.&nbsp;However, upon reviewing the case, Rakuten Bank notified the developer of a&nbsp;rejection. Nupuryu attached&nbsp;a&nbsp;screenshot&nbsp;of an email they received from&nbsp;Rakuten&nbsp;Bank&#8217;s monitoring department for&nbsp;international&nbsp;transfers, which reads, &#8220;Based on our review, we are unable to accept this incoming payment from overseas.&nbsp;We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, but we will proceed with the refund process to the&nbsp;sender.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moreover, the bank notes it is &#8220;unable to disclose the specific&nbsp;reason for the refusal,&#8221;&nbsp;which leaves the&nbsp;developer with&nbsp;little to&nbsp;work with&nbsp;towards resolving the issue.&nbsp;Nupuryu&#8217;s case is one of many&nbsp;similar&nbsp;instances of debanking&nbsp;in recent years.&nbsp;In May this year, Japanese indie developer&nbsp;Mousou&nbsp;no Mayu was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/japanese-adult-game-dev-blocked-from-receiving-steam-proceeds-from-all-ages-version-of-their-game-by-domestic-bank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">denied a transfer from their publisher<\/a>&nbsp;related to Steam revenue from an all-ages version of their adult game.&nbsp;In this case, the developer was probed with questions like, &#8220;is this revenue from a game featuring girls?&#8221;, and the bank made it clear that the rejection was made following a &#8220;thorough review of the game&#8217;s content.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similarly, Mai Itsuki of adult game circle Ren&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/japanese-indie-adult-game-developer-says-local-bank-blocked-their-overseas-revenue-transfers-despite-legal-compliance-citing-undisclosed-risks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported in April<\/a>&nbsp;that their bank had halted all transactions&nbsp;related&nbsp;to revenue from&nbsp;overseas versions of their games, citing &#8220;certain risks.&#8221;&nbsp;The decision was&nbsp;maintained&nbsp;despite the developer providing proof of their business being legally sound, as well as a history of selling their game in the US without issue for&nbsp;a whole year&nbsp;prior.&nbsp;It might be worth noting that in&nbsp;all of&nbsp;these cases, different banks were in question, so it&nbsp;doesn&#8217;t&nbsp;seem to be&nbsp;a&nbsp;matter of a specific bank having a policy against transactions related to adult games.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/japanese-content-platform-fantia-apologizes-for-censorship-controversy-says-police-inquiry-caused-rushed-guideline-changes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Japanese content platform&nbsp;Fantia&nbsp;apologizes for censorship controversy, says police inquiry caused rushed guideline changes&nbsp;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Indie creator Nupuryu, developer of action RPG Ruins Seeker, has run into trouble receiving proceeds from their overseas publishier.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":55,"featured_media":70314,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_gspb_post_css":"","autoblue_enabled":true,"autoblue_custom_message":"","autoblue_shares":[{"did":"did:plc:uzrrhkfyjrfdsynj2voztcf2","date":"2026-07-30T13:27:51+00:00","uri":"at:\/\/did:plc:uzrrhkfyjrfdsynj2voztcf2\/app.bsky.feed.post\/3mruk6yayiq2d","response":"{\"uri\":\"at:\/\/did:plc:uzrrhkfyjrfdsynj2voztcf2\/app.bsky.feed.post\/3mruk6yayiq2d\",\"cid\":\"bafyreicjdm2y2z5yg2lokq4cmuembfuqyaverqx6so4d2x4rsyqovsbmxi\",\"commit\":{\"cid\":\"bafyreif7l36aefwyzy3kop74upywh4xtephfkgxc6cbbydhbya46mm74oa\",\"rev\":\"3mruk6yb4fq2d\"},\"validationStatus\":\"valid\"}"}],"autoblue_post_url":"","autoblue_publish_document":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[62,3],"tags":[17],"class_list":["post-70311","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-indie-games","category-news","tag-japan-related-news"],"blocksy_meta":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.0 -
