But while the initial response was fairly positive, with many praising its nostalgic, low poly feel, the game ended up facing a wave of criticism and \u201ccopycat\u201d accusations after getting featured in multiple major media outlets from Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260619-68478-header-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-68483\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260619-68478-header-1.jpg 960w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260619-68478-header-1-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260619-68478-header-1-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Retro Rail GO!\u2019s Steam Store page describes it as a heartfelt tribute to Japanese classics, fans of the genre argued that the game crosses the line of \u201cjust a homage.\u201d Specifically, many users over on the Japanese side of X pointed out that the game\u2019s visual style, gameplay, and even UI design choices are strikingly similar to Densha de GO! &#8211; Taito\u2019s classic arcade train simulator series and probably one of the most recognized train sims in Japan Some went as far as to suggest that Taito and its owner Square Enix should take legal action against the developer on account of copyright infringement. But as somebody who was involved in the development of the early Densha De GO! series, I do have some thoughts on it.
