Commemorating the&nbsp;title\u2019s 1-year anniversary, the&nbsp;new version&nbsp;1.3.0 adds support for 3D backgrounds, allowing development of 2.5-style games.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Initially released in 2025 on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/2987180\/ACTION_GAME_MAKER\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steam<\/a>, Action Game Maker is a successor to Pixel Game Maker MV, designed to\u00a0allow even creators without knowledge of programming to develop\u00a02D games\u00a0such as\u00a0platformers, action RPGs and schmups.\u00a0The program is\u00a0based on the open-source game\u00a0engine\u00a0Godot, allowing access to\u00a0all of\u00a0its 2D features. While it\u00a0fully supports\u00a0standard\u00a0GDScript\u00a0coding, Action Game Maker also uses\u00a0a node-based visual scripting language created specifically for non-programmers. Beyond Godot features, the dev tool also comes with RPG Maker-like\u00a0features such as a database system, scene transition tools, 2D bone animations, and graphical and audio asset libraries.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1148\" height=\"673\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1148px) 100vw, 1148px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260618-68359-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-68362\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260618-68359-001.jpg 1148w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260618-68359-001-380x223.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260618-68359-001-768x450.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the latest update, users can load 3D models&nbsp;as&nbsp;environments&nbsp;for their games, a feature that has been&nbsp;long requested.&nbsp;It\u2019s&nbsp;worth noting that&nbsp;the&nbsp;3D&nbsp;content&nbsp;exists&nbsp;separately from the 2D gameplay&nbsp;space,&nbsp;however,&nbsp;it&nbsp;can&nbsp;operate&nbsp;as a parallax background synchronized with 2D gameplay elements, such as following the movement of the 2D camera.&nbsp;A manual on how the new feature works is available on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/guild.rpgmakerofficial.com\/t\/topic\/1521\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RPG Maker&nbsp;Guild<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another big addition to Action Game Maker is the arrival of custom action plugins, inspired by the&nbsp;plugin ecosystem used by the RPG Maker series.&nbsp;This feature allows users to create&nbsp;original Conditions and Actions using&nbsp;GDScript.
