However, despite kicking off on a rather promising note, development ended up in a standstill, with Nagoshi Studio needing an additional $44.4 million in funding in order to complete the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Gang of Dragon World Premiere Trailer from The Game Awards 2025\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KX2pzle9dkE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-03-07\/netease-to-stop-funding-nagoshi-studio-as-it-cuts-back-on-gaming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a>, this led NetEase, its parent company, to pull the developer\u2019s funding altogether starting May 2026, leaving Nagoshi Studio on what some speculated to be the brink of closure. Taking a look at Nagoshi Studio\u2019s social media accounts, updates ceased around February, which is one month before the investor announced it would stop funding the studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around May, fans pointed out that <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/articles\/newsjp\/nagoshi-20260512-442633\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nagoshi Studio\u2019s official website became inaccessible, and its YouTube channel deleted<\/a>, further supporting the theory that the studio may not be making a comeback. While NetEase did offer Nagoshi Studio to pay its way towards independence, it is unclear whether the developer has been negotiating with another investor, or if the project is still in limbo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interestingly, a recent announcement by the Japanese video-game magazine Weekly Famitsu has provided fans with another \u201chint\u201d pointing to Nagoshi Studio\u2019s uncertain situation. While all other developers have their respective companies clearly stated (ex. Yoshida Naoki \u2013 Square Enix; Katsuhiro Harada \u2013 VS Studio SNK), and none-affiliated developers are listed as \u201cfreelancers,\u201d Toshihiro Nagoshi is only described as a \u201cgame creator,\u201d without further elaboration on his current status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While we\u2019ll still have to wait for an official announcement regarding the future of Gang of Dragon, the fact that Nagoshi Studio isn\u2019t mentioned in its director\u2019s introduction has been interpreted as bad news by commenters in Japan.
