Following the launch of its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/3162900\/_\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steam store&nbsp;page<\/a>&nbsp;in April, the game&nbsp;amassed&nbsp;over&nbsp;10,000&nbsp;Wishlists&nbsp;in just three days.&nbsp;However, according to a new update from&nbsp;Onimushi,&nbsp;its&nbsp;demo&nbsp;is being tripped up in Valve\u2019s review process, and for reasons that appear quite puzzling.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On June 17, he wrote on X, \u201cEven though my game is an all-ages&nbsp;visual novel, I keep running into situations during review where&nbsp;I\u2019m&nbsp;left thinking, \u201cHuh!?&nbsp;That\u2019s&nbsp;what you have a problem with?\u201d For starters,&nbsp;there\u2019s&nbsp;an image&nbsp;that major gaming media outlets&nbsp;have&nbsp;published&nbsp;in their articles without any age&nbsp;checks&nbsp;or content warnings. Even then, the scene was still&nbsp;deemed&nbsp;too sexual, despite there being&nbsp;nothing sexual or suggestive happening context-wise either. \u201cShe\u2019s just thinking to herself in that scene, like&nbsp;\u2018What am I&nbsp;gonna&nbsp;do&nbsp;now?\u2019,&nbsp;but Steam treated it as \u2018too sexual\u2019 and refused to review it, so I was left baffled&nbsp;by the fact that even a black&nbsp;screen isn\u2019t okay,\u201d&nbsp;Onimushi&nbsp;said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Citing examples like&nbsp;Aftermath Z: Red Pine Lake, which got rejected by Steam for&nbsp;depicting a woman wearing a bathing&nbsp;suit&nbsp;in its key art,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AftermathZGame\/status\/1986148603581374656?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">only to be approved a week later<\/a>&nbsp;amidst public backlash,&nbsp;Onimushi expressed frustration with what appears to be an increasing lack of consistency and transparency in Steam\u2019s&nbsp;judgement&nbsp;criteria. \u201cI understand that Steam has its own standards, and I understand that moderation is necessary.&nbsp;I\u2019m&nbsp;not saying they&nbsp;shouldn\u2019t&nbsp;review content, but my&nbsp;issue is that nobody can tell where the line&nbsp;between&nbsp;what\u2019s&nbsp;acceptable and what&nbsp;isn\u2019t&nbsp;lies. This makes it even more&nbsp;confusing&nbsp;that, of all things,&nbsp;Valve\u2019s review is&nbsp;bringing up&nbsp;sexual content as an issue.&nbsp;While censorship of erotic games has been an ongoing issue in recent years,&nbsp;the case suggests that Steam&#8217;s review process may also be affecting all-ages titles, although it is based on the developer&#8217;s account of the review process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Distant Circular World (tentative) is currently in development for PC (<a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/3162900\/_\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steam<\/a>).
