Players control a plain white character and compete in hide-and-seek matches across 3D maps filled with objects. The seeker must hunt down the hidden players, who are eliminated if shot.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The twist is that&nbsp;players&nbsp;can freely&nbsp;paint&nbsp;their own characters with colors&nbsp;and designs&nbsp;of their choice.&nbsp;You can also sample colors from points scattered around the environment, allowing&nbsp;you to blend into the surroundings.&nbsp;While you&nbsp;can&nbsp;also&nbsp;simply hide behind objects or on high ground,&nbsp;the key is to make use of the game\u2019s&nbsp;drawing mechanics to disguise&nbsp;yourself as part of the scenery. The result&nbsp;is, as&nbsp;you\u2019d&nbsp;expect, a spectacularly chaotic hide-and-seek experience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1533\" height=\"861\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1533px) 100vw, 1533px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260616-68274-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-68279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260616-68274-001.jpg 1533w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260616-68274-001-380x213.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260616-68274-001-768x431.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The game supports online multiplayer and includes several modes, such as a traditional format where one seeker must find everyone before&nbsp;a&nbsp;timer&nbsp;runs out, a mode where discovered players become seekers themselves, and another in which everyone hides first before competing to see who can locate all the others the fastest.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently rated \u201cVery Positive\u201d on Steam,&nbsp;Mecha Chameleon was developed by game creator LEMORION. On their X account, they credit HAGANEIRO as a co-creator, suggesting that the game was created by a team of two people at&nbsp;least.&nbsp;Additionally, the&nbsp;Steam store page&nbsp;suggests&nbsp;the title is self-published.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mecha Chameleon&nbsp;had already attracted significant attention before&nbsp;launch&nbsp;thanks to its catchy concept, with&nbsp;Steam&nbsp;Wishlists&nbsp;surpassing 500,000 on the eve of release. The momentum&nbsp;seems to have&nbsp;not only&nbsp;carried over&nbsp;but accelerated following launch, as the game&nbsp;quickly sold over 5 million units and peaked at over 130 thousand concurrent players (<a href=\"https:\/\/steamdb.info\/app\/4704690\/charts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SteamDB<\/a>).&nbsp;At the time of writing,&nbsp;Meccha&nbsp;Chameleon\u2019s popularity seems to come primarily from English-speaking users, as over half of the title\u2019s Steam reviews are in English.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1532\" height=\"862\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1532px) 100vw, 1532px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260616-68274-003.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-68281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260616-68274-003.jpg 1532w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260616-68274-003-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260616-68274-003-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following LEMORION\u2019s announcement of the game passing the 2-million mark yesterday,&nbsp;industry peers in Japan&nbsp;couldn\u2019t&nbsp;help but comment on how odd-defying Meccha Chameleon\u2019s success is when contrasted with the market\u2019s current conditions.&nbsp;Mixi&nbsp;and Sega game producer Taira Nakamura&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/tairanakamura\/status\/2066690262177632460?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>,&nbsp;\u201cEven without spending&nbsp;money on promotion,&nbsp;they\u2019ve&nbsp;sold 2 million copies in 5 days, albeit at a low price point. This is an unthinkable achievement for&nbsp;the game industry and&nbsp;game companies.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He theorizes that&nbsp;Meccha&nbsp;Chameleon\u2019s commercial success comes from its&nbsp;high&nbsp;popularity among streamers, and that the game itself was&nbsp;likely designed&nbsp;(consciously or unconsciously)&nbsp;with the idea of&nbsp;\u201cbeing fun to stream\u201d&nbsp;at its core.&nbsp;\u201cFor those of us who&nbsp;grew&nbsp;passionate about games during a time when streaming&nbsp;didn&#8217;t&nbsp;exist, this is a perspective we&nbsp;don&#8217;t&nbsp;consciously think about.
