Aside from discussing Requiem\u2019s\u00a0recent\u00a0success, Unai also asked the developers about the direction future entries\u00a0will take, especially\u00a0in terms of\u00a0possible timelines\u00a0and settings\u00a0(source:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/futaman.futabanet.jp\/articles\/-\/131417?page=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Futaman<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although\u00a0Resident Evil has become a series where characters age with each new entry,\u00a0Kumazawa\u00a0says there are actually no strict rules in this regard. \u201cWe only started portraying characters aging with Resident Evil 4. In fact,\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0even done things like moving the timeline backward\u00a0between\u00a0Resident Evil 2\u00a0and\u00a0Resident Evil 3,\u00a0so we\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0follow any set rules.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat said,\u201d he goes on to explain, \u201cwe do adjust the timeline based on the assessment that&nbsp;present-day stories&nbsp;help&nbsp;players feel more immersed. The timeline also changes depending on the characters and story we want to portray in each title. Even in Requiem, we have scenes set eight years prior, as well as even earlier periods. So, where the timeline goes from here will depend on the specific title.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1517\" height=\"843\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1517px) 100vw, 1517px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260601-67468-001.jpg\" alt=\"Resident Evil Requiem\" class=\"wp-image-67471\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260601-67468-001.jpg 1517w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260601-67468-001-380x211.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260601-67468-001-768x427.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to locations, when asked about a potential Resident Evil title set in Japan, the producer says, \u201cI\u00a0think a Japanese\u00a0setting\u00a0is something every Japanese Resident Evil fan has though about, and\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0also considered it myself. Since the development team is primarily based in Japan, I think every member has given it some thought. While Japan\u00a0hasn\u2019t\u00a0appeared as a game setting so far, it might make an appearance at some point in the future.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although&nbsp;these are all still hypotheticals,&nbsp;Kumazawa&nbsp;assures that whichever direction the series takes in the future,&nbsp;\u201cwe won\u2019t&nbsp;compromise&nbsp;the core elements of the series,&nbsp;such as the characters and the events that unfold,&nbsp;and we\u2019ll continue to preserve what the series holds dear.
