On the other hand, development is proceeding as planned internally, with the main route scenario nearing completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To provide some background, the Purgatory: Blue crowdfunding project was launched on Ubugoe in July 2025, amassing over&nbsp;10.93 million yen&nbsp;(about $68.4 thousand USD) and reaching 156% of its original goal. But despite the payment date being scheduled for November 2025, Ubgoe had been delaying the deadline on multiple occasions until February 2026, and still failed to deliver the funds to the developers. In response, ENDLESS SUMMER Studio filed a criminal complaint with the Shibuya Police Station, alleging that Ubgoe CEO Kazuo Okada had committed embezzlement. Depending on future development of the case, the company stated that it will decide whether to file a full-blown civil lawsuit against Ubgoe and Okada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/20260518-667890001.jpg\" alt=\"Purgatory: Blue\" class=\"wp-image-66794\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/20260518-667890001.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/20260518-667890001-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/20260518-667890001-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While Ubgoe launched in January 2021 as a crowdfunding service with the \u201cfirst ever\u201d zero fees system for project creators, boasting a number of successful projects, the platform has recently been facing difficulties, with numerous similar cases of withheld funds being reported across the industry. Last month, acclaimed game creator Jiro Ishii <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/japanese-crowdfunded-340k-game-still-missing-half-its-funds-as-platform-claims-it-accidentally-sent-the-money-elsewhere\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/japanese-crowdfunded-340k-game-still-missing-half-its-funds-as-platform-claims-it-accidentally-sent-the-money-elsewhere\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> that Ubgoe had withheld over half of the funds raised for his upcoming project Shibuya Scramble Stories. What\u2019s more, the site itself\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/japanese-crowdfunding-platform-that-allegedly-ran-off-with-more-than-half-of-ishii-jiros-340k-game-budget-suddenly-becomes-inaccessible\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">became inaccessible on the night of April 15<\/a>. While\u00a0Ubgoe\u00a0issued a brief statement\u00a0saying it was working on restoring servers, the site\u00a0has been\u00a0down for over a month at the time of this writing.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u3010\u3046\u3076\u3054\u3048\u672a\u5165\u91d1\u9a12\u52d5\u3011\u3000\u7686\u3055\u307e\u3078\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IOaUCx31VwE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the recent video update, cittan* addressed his fans and backers, doubling down on the situation and explaining that he would definitely deliver the rewards promised through crowdfunding. According to Ubgoe\u2019s&nbsp;terms and conditions,&nbsp;with every pledge,&nbsp;contracts are formed directly between&nbsp;the&nbsp;backer&nbsp;and the project owner, which means that ENDLESS SUMMER Studio&nbsp;is&nbsp;responsible to fulfill all obligations regardless of whether&nbsp;it has actually received the money. This means that, until the situation is resolved, the company will likely have to cover all the reward expenses out of its own pocket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apparently, cittan* has already depleted all of his savings on producing the game, and was planning to recoup some of that amount through the crowdfunding campaign. As a result, the project is being kept afloat thanks to music revenue and support from the subscription platform FANBOX. While the developers had to make some compromises, like completely turning down outsourcing work for the time being, it seems like they still haven\u2019t lost hope and are currently working towards stabilizing their finances with cooperation from various external parties.
