Shigeru Miyamoto explains\u00a0new approach\u00a0to script\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Following its US&nbsp;release&nbsp;at the start of April,&nbsp;<strong>The Super Mario Galaxy Movie<\/strong>&nbsp;finally&nbsp;started&nbsp;screening&nbsp;in&nbsp;theaters across Japan&nbsp;as of April 24, and&nbsp;it seems the domestic version&nbsp;comes with substantial differences when it comes to dialogue<strong>.&nbsp;<\/strong>Talking to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.crank-in.net\/interview\/184096\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Crank In<\/a>, Nintendo\u2019s Shigeru Miyamoto explained how the second installment following&nbsp;2023\u2019s&nbsp;The Super Mario Bros. Movie&nbsp;differs when it comes to Japanese localization&nbsp;and&nbsp;why&nbsp;his team&nbsp;decided to&nbsp;change&nbsp;its&nbsp;approach to&nbsp;the film\u2019s script.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSince this is a project made\u00a0both in\u00a0Japan and the\u00a0US, we\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0want the Japanese version to be just a localization of the English\u00a0version,\u00a0we wanted to\u00a0properly write\u00a0and craft it in Japanese,\u201d Miyamoto says. While the first Mario movie was produced simultaneously in English and Japanese,\u00a0the\u00a0know-how\u00a0gained from the process allowed Nintendo and Illumination to take a different route\u00a0this time. I want Mario and&nbsp;company&nbsp;to speak with the kind of natural dialogue&nbsp;you\u2019d&nbsp;hear in&nbsp;one of their&nbsp;stage productions, but localization tends to alter the rhythm of conversations.&nbsp;Jokes&nbsp;differ&nbsp;between Japan and overseas, so we wanted to make the dialogue feel as natural as possible,\u201d Miyamoto explains.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the first Mario movie&nbsp;likewise&nbsp;included some adlibbing in its Japanese version, the actors were&nbsp;generally bound&nbsp;by the rule that they&nbsp;shouldn\u2019t&nbsp;change the source material. But for the new film, Miyamoto says, the production team&nbsp;instructed the actors to&nbsp;\u201cuse the visuals as a base to create something entertaining in Japanese,\u201d encouraging them to adlib to their hearts\u2019 content.&nbsp;\u201cSince we recorded the scenes with improvisation allowed and then&nbsp;refined&nbsp;them afterward, there\u2019s a lot of care packed into the final product,\u201d&nbsp;Miyamoto says.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is currently showing in theaters across the US and Japan.
