{"id":65414,"date":"2026-04-17T22:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/?p=65414"},"modified":"2026-04-17T18:01:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T09:01:11","slug":"unity-employees-in-korea-protest-over-alleged-underhanded-restructuring-tactics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/unity-employees-in-korea-protest-over-alleged-underhanded-restructuring-tactics\/","title":{"rendered":"Unity employees in Korea\u00a0protest\u00a0over alleged \u201cunderhanded\u201d restructuring tactics\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The labor union of\u00a0<strong>Unity Technologies Korea<\/strong>\u00a0(hereafter Unity Korea)\u00a0held a protest on April 16, alleging that the company has been using\u00a0unfair means to get\u00a0employees to resign, according to reports by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisgame.com\/articles\/420100?newsId=263&amp;categoryId=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ThisIsGame<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/biz.chosun.com\/en\/en-it\/2026\/04\/16\/DWRYBXNXC5F2LBVEYRLWP2KU2A\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ChosunBiz<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In parallel with large-scale layoffs in Unity\u2019s headquarters, the workforce of Unity Korea has&nbsp;reportedly&nbsp;been&nbsp;downsized&nbsp;from 230 to 120 people.&nbsp;However, since South Korea\u2019s labor laws make it difficult for&nbsp;employers&nbsp;to carry out on-the-spot mass layoffs&nbsp;(like in the US), the union claims Unity Korea purposely placed employees on \u201cstandby\u201d (i.e.,&nbsp;excluded&nbsp;them from&nbsp;work)&nbsp;and&nbsp;introduced&nbsp;wage cuts&nbsp;to encourage voluntary resignations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allegedly,\u00a0this started late last year, when\u00a0Unity Korea\u00a0suddenly\u00a0put a\u00a0group of employees\u00a0it had hired less than six months prior\u00a0on\u00a0standby.
