Studio\u00a0Kumasan<\/strong>, a Japanese game studio known for titles such as\u00a0Girls Creation\u00a0(a turn-based mobile\u00a0gacha\u00a0title that reimagines popular musicians like Vincent Van Gogh as cute anime girls) and\u00a0Twinkle Star Knights\u00a0(a magical girl\u00a0gacha\u00a0RPG of the same vein), recently\u00a0announced<\/a>\u00a0its new\u00a0\u201cKumasan\u00a0Black\u201d\u00a0division.\u00a0Separate from its\u00a0other labels,\u00a0Kumasan\u00a0Black aims to pursue what the studio calls \u201cedgy titles\u201d that explore the \u201csharp sensibilities\u201d of its creators.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the word \u201cedgy\u201d sounds vague, representative director Yudai Hasegawa jokingly admitted in a Famitsu interview<\/a> that the word is meant to soften the fact that Kumasan Black was created specifically to make \u201cextremely erotic games.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2026 During a meeting with the CEO of Exnoa (the company that owns DMM Games and Studio Kumasan), we were asked to create challenging and edgy titles under the Kumasan brand. I can\u2019t share the details of our first title yet, but I think players of existing Kumasan titles will be surprised in both good and bad ways. That\u2019s how edgy it will be.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Twinkle<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

According to Hasegawa, Studio\u00a0Kumasan\u00a0titles\u00a0like Twinkle\u00a0Star Knights\u00a0typically feature classic storylines and worldbuilding, with a focus on\u00a0\u201cpure\u201d and\u00a0romantic love stories.\u00a0He\u00a0likens\u00a0these mainstream, upbeat titles to the color white.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In contrast, Kumasan Black titles will feature more provocative, adult content (hence the division\u2019s name). Though Hasegawa couldn\u2019t reveal much about the division\u2019s first game (which will formally be announced on April 10), he did mention that it would include \u201cintense bedroom scenes\u201d (made by a dedicated animator team) and feature a female character with a dual personality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hasegawa\u00a0says\u00a0that the addition of a new Studio\u00a0Kumasan\u00a0division was inspired by the\u00a0bishoujo\u00a0game industry, where studios would create\u00a0separate\u00a0labels to help players differentiate the content of their titles.\u00a0In addition to\u00a0the standard versions\u00a0that feature X-rated content,\u00a0Kumasan\u00a0Black titles will also have toned-down, censored versions that will allow those interested to\u00a0give them a try.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
