Japanese indie game developer and VTuber Enzi_nia (\u5712\u5150\u30cb\u30a2) recently released the free Unity game Diamond Digging Simulator <\/strong>via Unityroom (as spotted by Game*Spark<\/a>). As you can probably tell by the title art, the game is based on the heavily memed on \u201cNever Give Up\u201d motivational image, and its somewhat absurdist gameplay has received a lot of attention from Japanese players. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much like the original image\u2019s depiction of a man giving up on his dig right before\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0about to strike gold (or\u00a0in this case,\u00a0diamonds),\u00a0Enzi_nia\u2019s\u00a0digging simulator<\/a> presents you with the dilemma of \u201cDo I keep digging?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a 3D, first-person perspective reminiscent of Minecraft, you\u2019re faced with nothing but the pickaxe in your hand and a wall of dirt blocking your way. Using simple WASD controls, your goal is to blindly dig your way to the diamonds that are located somewhere in the game\u2019s extremely large map. The are absolutely no hints, and the only way to find out where the diamonds are is to miraculously encounter them as you dig, or choose to \u201cgive up.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Giving up will cause the game to pan out and show you how close (or far) you were to discovering the diamonds, with a meaningful \u201cThis is Life\u201d taking over the screen. The location of the diamonds is randomized with each run, which explains why some players have grown mesmerized with the grind. Funnily, the game doesn\u2019t reward mindless perseverance, as digging too far can cause you to fall off the map\u2019s edge and die. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diamond Digging Simulator is playable for free via browser on Unityroom<\/a>. Although it\u2019s only available in Japanese, you probably won\u2019t have much trouble navigating the simple controls and \u201cGive Up\u201d button on the bottom right. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an aside, developer Enzi_nia is currently also working on the Steam game \u201cPubes.\u201d<\/a> Scheduled to launch in 2026, the title is a 3D action exploration game in which you, the player, control a strand of pubic hair. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
