Arguably\u00a0Pragmata<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0most\u00a0unique and defining\u00a0feature is its\u00a0combat system that\u00a0blends\u00a0hacking and shooting gameplay.<\/a>\u00a0While some people applaud Capcom for taking risks, others\u00a0have expressed concern\u00a0about the fusion\u00a0of puzzles and action\u00a0potentially deterring\u00a0players who\u00a0may have an aversion to either of the genres. In an interview with\u00a0Famitsu<\/a>, director Cho\u00a0Yonghee\u00a0and producer Naoto Oyama explain how the development team has\u00a0accounted for different preferences\u00a0by allowing players to\u00a0create builds that\u00a0fit their playstyles.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Oyama, the early hours of Pragmata were designed for players to enjoy an equal balance of hacking and gunplay. As players progress and discover their preferences, more advanced custom modules and unlockable abilities allow them to fine-tune their experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDepending on how you build your setup, a single hack can sometimes deal more damage than a single shot from a gun, so I think playstyles will vary quite a bit depending on the player,\u201d says Cho. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As proof that the systems work as intended, the developers confirmed that there were attendees at a March media preview event who completed the demo solely through hacking. Oyama and Cho also revealed their own contrasting playstyles: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI prefer a hacking-focused\u00a0approach,\u201d says Oyama.\u00a0\u201cSince you can deal damage by chaining hacks together,\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0usually chip away\u00a0at\u00a0an enemy\u2019s health\u00a0using that method. When I want to\u00a0deal\u00a0massive damage,\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0use powerful weapons or use multi-hacks to overload several enemies at once. While I do consider\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0most effective depending on the situation, I tend to rely heavily on hacking.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, Cho considers himself the complete opposite, preferring gunplay over hacking.\u00a0\u201cI play\u00a0Pragmata\u00a0like an action game and often fight using strategies that emphasize\u00a0the\u00a0action\u00a0mechanics. That said, I sometimes focus on hacking later in the game.\u00a0By combining hacking techniques, you can use\u00a0the\u00a0Multi-Hack\u00a0ability\u00a0to put\u00a0several\u00a0enemies into\u00a0a Finishing Blow\u00a0state. I really enjoy\u00a0unleashing a barrage of Finishing Blows to take down hordes of\u00a0enemies.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given\u00a0the flexibility of\u00a0Pragmata\u2019s\u00a0systems and Capcom\u2019s penchant for adding New Game+ modes in its single-player titles,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0likely that players will spend a lot of time experimenting with the\u00a0various ways\u00a0Hugh and Diana can take down their robot enemies.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pragmata is set to launch on April 17, 2026 for Windows (Steam<\/a>), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\u2758S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The Sketchbook demo is currently available on all platforms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
