A new fan poll<\/a> held in the lead-up to the anime convention AnimeJapan 2026<\/strong> has revealed which manga fans most want to see adapted into anime. The annual \u201cManga We Want to See Animated Ranking\u201d collected a record-breaking 222,758 votes this year (an increase of nearly 70,000 over last year) with fans choosing from a shortlist of 48 nominated titles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The poll, now in its ninth year, is\u00a0pretty influential, with\u00a0past winners like The Dangers in My Heart, Solo Leveling, Komi\u00a0Can\u2019t\u00a0Communicate, and The Apothecary Diaries all receiving\u00a0successful anime adaptations following their placement on this list.\u00a0\u00a0Once a title wins first place, it is traditionally inducted into the “Hall of Fame” and excluded from future polls to make room for new contenders.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking the top spot this year is the\u00a0romantic\u00a0comedy\u00a0“The Mortifying Ordeal of Being Seen” (Tonari\u00a0no Seki no\u00a0Yatsu\u00a0ga\u00a0Souiu\u00a0Me de\u00a0Mitekuru), written and illustrated by\u00a0mmk.\u00a0The story is about\u00a0two seatmates who\u00a0\u201clook at each other with ulterior motives\u201d and\u00a0start an\u00a0all-out\u00a0\u201cbattle\u00a0of flirtatious gazes.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trailing closely\u00a0behing the rom-com are\u00a0the baseball-themed\u00a0Strikeout\u00a0Pitch in second and the action-comedy\u00a0Ketsu\u00a0Battler in third.\u00a0The rest of the top 10 features a mix of comedy, slice-of-life, and action titles.\u00a0Utsuranain\u00a0desu\u00a0ranked fourth, while #Gal \u00d7 Gal Yuri\u00a0came in fifth, and\u00a0On and Off: Work-Life Imbalance placed sixth.\u00a0Further down the list,\u00a0Usotsuki!\u00a0Gokuoh-kun\u00a0ranked seventh, followed by\u00a0Dhinosann\u00a0in eighth place.\u00a0Then, the\u00a0action manga\u00a0Gokurakugai\u00a0placed ninth,\u00a0and\u00a0Centuria\u00a0rounded out the list in tenth place.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Usotsuki! Gokuoh-kun seems to be a rare “legacy” win. The manga actually ended its serialization years ago, but likely had a resurgence in popularity thanks to the publisher, Shogakukan, releasing a \u201ccomplete edition\u201d in mid-to-late 2025. Also of note is Centuria, a brutal, dark fantasy series from Shonen Jump+ that has been called the spiritual successor to Berserk. Its author, Tohru Kuramori, was a former assistant to Tatsuki Fujimoto of Chainsaw Man fame. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s also Gokurakugai, which, beyond its visual appeal, stands out due to its immense commercial success, having surpassed 1.4 million copies in circulation by early 2026 with only six volumes released so far. It also earned a public endorsement<\/a> from the veteran mangaka Kei Urana (Gachiakuta), who praised the \u201cflawless artwork\u201d and said she has \u201ccollected every volume.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
