The video game version is a simulation game where players take on the role of a trainer to raise and train various Uma Musume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its popularity rose after the second season of the anime aired and the videogame version was released in 2021. If you search for \u201cUma Musume\u201d on social media, you\u2019ll likely find plenty of fanart featuring characters from the series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fan works of a popular franchise flourishing is nothing new. However, <em>Uma Musume Pretty Derby <\/em>is different from most other IPs since the character names are based on real racehorses, and the project was made possible with the cooperation and consent of the horse owners and other related parties. For this reason, Cygames has been <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180620090317\/https:\/umamusume.jp\/news\/detail.php?id=news-0106\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">asking fans<\/a> to be careful not to harm the image of the characters or racehorses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, it came to a point where simply asking the fans wasn\u2019t enough. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/umamusume.jp\/news\/detail.php?id=481\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the latest statement<\/a> from Cygames, there are currently some fan works that significantly damage the image of the racehorses, and<a href=\"https:\/\/umamusume.jp\/derivativework_guidelines\/\"> t<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/umamusume.jp\/derivativework_guidelines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">h<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/umamusume.jp\/derivativework_guidelines\/\">e guidelines<\/a> were established in response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The overall message and intent haven\u2019t changed from Cygames\u2019 previous warnings, but now that a specific list of prohibited content is in place, there\u2019s less room for interpretation as to what is considered harmful.
