The response from our readers was huge, and many of the comments and opinions we received suggested that the majority overseas players would also prefer for the Atelier games to be made \u201cas a Japanese game, with the Japanese audience in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">As the Atelier franchise goes global, the dev team is torn about how to reconcile Western and Japanese players\u2019 vastly differing demands<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BCgDOmmCgD\">https:\/\/t.co\/BCgDOmmCgD<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sCUr3QFG6n\">pic.twitter.com\/sCUr3QFG6n<\/a><\/p>&mdash; AUTOMATON WEST (@AUTOMATON_ENG) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AUTOMATON_ENG\/status\/1935004510306586915?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 17, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Fast forward to November 2025, AUTOMATON reunited with Hosoi to hear his reaction to overseas players\u2019 feedback, and ask him about his plans on expanding Atelier series\u2019 popularity in the West going forward. Looking back at the previous interview, Hosoi explained that he\u2019s recently been thinking a lot about how to move forward, while going through some trial-and-error. \u201cI am very happy and grateful for all the feedback everyone gave us. Instead of making games specifically for the overseas or for the Japanese audience, what I\u2019m envisioning is an approach to creating works that will be entertaining for our Japanese players, while also positively received overseas,\u201d Hosoi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260219-583140001.jpg\" alt=\"Atelier Ryza gameplay.\" class=\"wp-image-58319\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260219-583140001.jpg 960w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260219-583140001-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260219-583140001-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn recent years, Atelier has slowly become popular among overseas gamers as well. So, we want to be aware of their needs while also treasuring the uniqueness of the Atelier series and the essence of JRPGs,\u201d he clarified. Of course, bearing in mind the needs of overseas users doesn\u2019t mean that the Atelier series will make a departure from its unique Japanese RPG feel and aesthetics, the producer explained \u2013 on a conceptual level, Gust is determined to keep the Atelier series as it has always been.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYes, the concept will stay the same. We have no intentions to neglect our domestic player base in favor of the overseas audience. However, it\u2019s a fact that in recent years we\u2019ve been achieving greater overseas sales, and getting more returning customers thanks to reviews, both in Japan and internationally. So, for our work to reach even more people going forward, I believe the key lies in making the game interesting at its core.
