Dynasty Warriors and Ninja Gaiden developer Koei Tecmo<\/strong> has published its financial results for the first three quarters of the fiscal year (from April to December 2025). Like each year, Japanese fans have gathered to marvel at the very unusual-looking breakdown of the company\u2019s income. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A\u00a0viral\u00a0post by\u00a0Kanpo Blog<\/a>, an\u00a0X\u00a0account dedicated to\u00a0analyzing\u00a0publicly traded\u00a0businesses\u00a0in Japan, pointed out that during the past three fiscal quarters, Koei Tecmo\u2019s non-operating\u00a0profit\u00a0(meaning\u00a0profit\u00a0that\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0come from\u00a0core activities such as video games) exceeded its operating profit.\u00a0With a joking disclaimer that\u00a0reminds\u00a0users that yes, Koei Tecmo is\u00a0indeed\u00a0a game\u00a0company,\u00a0the blog contrasts the company\u2019s 14.5 billion yen in operating profit against 16.528 billion in non-operating profit over the past nine months.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not a first for\u00a0Koei Tecmo<\/a>, as\u00a0the company is\u00a0known to\u00a0function as an institutional investor, managing a large amount of capital through stocks and other financial assets\u00a0in parallel with its game business.\u00a0Chairwoman\u00a0Keiko\u00a0Erikawa, who is\u00a0famous for being a skilled investor\u00a0(and\u00a0financing the company\u2019s entry into the game industry<\/a>\u00a0in the first place),\u00a0personally\u00a0oversaw\u00a0the management of a whopping 120 billion\u00a0yen\u00a0(over $775 million)\u00a0in investment funds\u00a0as of 2021<\/a>.\u00a0In February 2025, she became CEO of a new Koei Tecmo subsidiary dedicated\u00a0exclusively\u00a0to financial\u00a0functions, called Koei Tecmo Corporate Finance.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a less serious note,\u00a0the news has once again prompted\u00a0numerous\u00a0comments from Japanese fans jokingly calling Koei Tecmo an \u201cinvestment company disguised as a game company\u201d\u00a0and thanking \u201cthe Empress\u201d Keiko\u00a0Erikawa\u00a0for the high budget and quality of recent game releases like Dynasty Warriors Origins.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking ahead, Koei Tecmo plans to release Pok\u00e9mon Pokopia, the Pok\u00e9mon series\u2019 first life simulator game, as well as Team Ninja\u2019s Nioh 3, scheduled to launch on February 26. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
