Following the massive success of\u00a0Attack on Titan<\/strong>, fans\u00a0are\u00a0expecting\u00a0great things\u00a0from\u00a0manga author\u00a0Hajime Isayama\u2019s next work.\u00a0However, during a January 9 conference to celebrate the rescreening of Attack on Titan: The Last Attack (a compilation film of the series\u2019 final episodes), Isayama revealed that, apart from\u00a0creating\u00a0illustrations and signing autographs for fans, he hasn\u2019t been working on manga for some time (source:\u00a0Oricon News<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to\u00a0the conference panelists, Isayama revealed what he has been up to recently:\u00a0\u201cIt’s\u00a0been years since the manga serialization and anime broadcast (of Attack on Titan) ended, but\u00a0I’m\u00a0not working now. Occasionally, I\u00a0draw illustrations and sign autographs, and I’ve also helped\u00a0out\u00a0with\u00a0Yuki Kaji\u2019s\u00a0Soyogi\u00a0project, but I no longer draw\u00a0on a daily basis.”\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The projects Isayama is referring to includes illustrations for Soyogi EXPO, a live event hosted as part of Eren Yeager voice actor Yuki Kaji\u2019s Soyogi Fractal AI voice project<\/a>, as well as The Theory of Ill-Natured Men and AI, a 2025 one-shot manga featuring a character created by Kaji <\/a>and art by Kai Noshigami. Since Noshigami provides the art for the manga, Isayama is free to focus on the narrative. Aside from The Theory of Ill-Natured Men and AI, Isayama\u2019s most recent works are Attack on Avengers, a 2014 crossover with Marvel featuring Earth\u2019s mightiest heroes, and The Killing Pawn, a 2021 one-shot manga with art by Ry\u014dji Minagawa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just because Isayama\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0draw as much anymore\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0mean he\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0busy, though. In fact, he says that his daily life is far removed from the\u00a0self-indulgent\u00a0NEET lifestyle he wished\u00a0he had back during Attack on Titan\u2019s manga serialization. Even if he\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0busy, Isayama admits that he\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0think he could make something of the same caliber\u00a0anymore.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf I tried to write something, it would just feel like a cutout of something I already\u00a0depicted\u00a0in Attack on Titan.\u00a0I think that first serialization\u00a0was one where I just poured out all of myself until I was completely drained.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon hearing the manga artist\u2019s words, Yuki Kaji chimed in, saying that he met Isayama privately last year and found him doing well. After showering him with\u00a0praises, Kaji expressed sympathy for the pressure Isayama must be feeling following the end of Attack on Titan and wished him well in his future endeavors.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
