As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisgame.com\/articles\/406514\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ThisIsGame<\/a>, the long-time industry veteran dedicated his session to discussing the kind of mindset he considers developers should uphold in the changing game industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inafune was critical of the growing tendency for game publishers to release titles that rely solely on IP fame or trendy genres, which are guaranteed to secure predictable profit margins. He clarifies that, (based on machine translation), \u201cI\u2019m not saying it\u2019s bad to continue existing franchises or make games that riff on popular genres. What I mean is that these shouldn\u2019t be the only games being made.\u201d He considers that, for the game ecosystem to remain healthy, the industry needs developers \u201cwith a clear message.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1275\" height=\"716\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1275px) 100vw, 1275px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20251107-53723-001.jpg\" alt=\"Onimusha: Warlords\" class=\"wp-image-53728\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20251107-53723-001.jpg 1275w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20251107-53723-001-380x213.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20251107-53723-001-768x431.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Back when Inafune started making games, in the 1980s and 90s, there weren\u2019t many existing trends to follow, such as \u201cMonster Hunter-style&#8221; or \u201cFinal Fantasy-style&#8221; games. Rather, creating new concepts with each project was \u201csimply the norm,\u201d he explained. While he did work on certain series throughout multiple entries (like Mega Man), he considers his constant hopping between vastly different projects to be a key factor behind his successful portfolio. \u201cIt was possible because I didn\u2019t dwell on my past hits.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By contrast, now that the game industry has grown mature, Inafune thinks many developers have&nbsp;taken an overly \u201cdefensive\u201d stance. While such choices may be necessary for fans and business, when considering the essence of game development and the passion for creation, it should not become the entirety of the gaming scene.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following his <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/kenji-inafunes-silent-departure-from-level-5-last-year-complicated-the-development-of-fantasy-life-ceo-reveals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">somewhat turbulent departure from Level-5<\/a> mid-2024, Inafune became an executive of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketstd.co.jp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rocket Studio<\/a>, a game company led by former Hudson Soft developer Takashi Takebe. However, news on ongoing or future projects by him has been scarce for now.
