In what it calls a \u201cCareer Transition Support System,\u201d Colopl is soliciting voluntary resignations from employees to meet its new downsizing target (as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/gamebiz.jp\/news\/415471\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GameBiz<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This comes amidst the company\u2019s core game business <a href=\"https:\/\/gamebiz.jp\/news\/415474\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recording an operating loss<\/a> for the second consecutive fiscal year. Of note, Colopl is the developer of Square Enix\u2019s Dragon Quest Walk, which has been performing strongly. However, revenue from its newly released titles like Tsukuyomi: The Divine Hunter (<a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/shin-megami-tensei-artist-kazuma-kaneko-reveals-he-left-atlus-10-years-ago-to-pursue-mobile-game-development\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">designed by Persona and Shin Megami Tensei artist Kazuma Kaneko<\/a>) and Isekai \u221e Isekai has not been enough to make up for a general decline of the company\u2019s portfolio.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colopl comments that \u201cthe mobile game market environment has become increasingly challenging in recent years, with the creation of new hit titles growing more difficult each year.\u201d Anticipating that these conditions are likely to continue, the developer has decided to implement several measures to ensure long-term sustainability, including revisions to its development pipeline and workforce restructuring.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"843\" height=\"478\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 843px) 100vw, 843px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/20250501-47673-header.jpg\" alt=\"Tsukuyomi: The Divine Hunter\" class=\"wp-image-47676\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/20250501-47673-header.jpg 843w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/20250501-47673-header-380x215.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/20250501-47673-header-768x435.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>By January 31, 2026, Colopl plans to let go of 70 full-time employes aged 26 or older (excluding managers and above). Employees who apply for the resignation program will receive special severance packages and be offered outplacement support. The company expects to spend approximately 210 million yen (around $1.36 million USD) on the restructuring efforts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given that Japan\u2019s labor laws do not allow the kind of on-the-spot layoffs seen in the US game industry, Colopl has joined a growing list of Japanese game companies asking its employees to leave voluntarily. Prior examples include <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/after-asking-80-employees-to-resign-voluntarily-final-fantasy-brave-exvius-developer-turns-around-financial-deficit-for-the-first-time-in-over-a-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Final Fantasy Brave Exvius developer Gumi<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/another-japanese-game-company-is-asking-staff-to-voluntarily-quit-their-jobs-amidst-financial-losses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Enish<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/japanese-gacha-game-studio-asks-100-full-time-employees-to-quit-in-large-scale-downsizing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KLab<\/a>.
