A good action game needs mechanics no other game has\u00a0\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hideki Kamiya, the creator behind influential titles like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta and Okami, recently participated in a three-way discussion with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.famitsu.com\/article\/202510\/55371\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Famitsu<\/a> and Morbid Metal creator Felix Schade. He talked about how far 3D action games have come in recent years and what he values most in the genre, both as a player and as a developer.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I make a new game, I try to come up with a unique gameplay mechanic that can only be experienced in that game. For example, in Bayonetta it was the Witch Time system where dodging an enemy attack slows down time, and in Okami, it was the Celestial Brush, which lets you directly affect the game world by drawing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Schade mentions that fewer games being released nowadays introduce such innovative ideas, Kamiya says that he\u2019s personally not drawn to games that only offer improved graphics. \u201cAs a player, I want to get excited by the unique experiences which only that one game can offer.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"925\" height=\"517\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 925px) 100vw, 925px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/20251022-53192-001.jpg\" alt=\"Celestial Brush in Okami\" class=\"wp-image-53196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/20251022-53192-001.jpg 925w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/20251022-53192-001-380x212.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/20251022-53192-001-768x429.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, Kamiya is impressed by how far 3D action games have come as a genre. \u201cUntil not too long ago, there weren\u2019t many 3D action games around, but recently there have been a lot of stylish, combo-based action titles.
