Cygames updated certain scenarios and voice lines in Umamusume: Pretty Derby<\/strong>\u2019s Japanese version on October 10. Specifically, the changes affect scenes related to the character Fine Motion. Previously, her backstory suggested that she was part of “Ireland\u2019s royal family,” despite Ireland being a republic. Likely to avoid any confusion arising from this discrepancy (especially as Umamusume recently got a global release), the developers have made some small revisions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The update<\/a>, which went live around 11:30 AM Japan time, modified several in-game elements and even Fine Motion\u2019s official character profile on the game’s website. However, all changes are limited to wording and do not affect gameplay or event outcomes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the game, Fine Motion is a racehorse who came to Tracen Academy from Ireland. Her original backstory suggested she had royal ties and lived a sheltered life as a result, making her time at the academy a chance to create new memories. Her story depicts a girl experiencing freedom for the first time, training, racing, and inhaling ramen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the update, her backstory has been reworded, although it\u2019s quite subtle. Instead of implying she\u2019s an Irish royal, she\u2019s now described as a descendant of royalty who \u201cended up\u201d in Ireland, and the daughter of a high-ranking government official. As such, Fine Motion is still referred to as a royal and guarded by bodyguards. The revision comes nearly four years after her debut in the game in December 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
