And it\u2019s not that big of a surprise \u2013 the game built up quite the hype ever since its gameplay trailer was released, and it sounds like those who played the demo during TGS were <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/its-like-if-gta-spiderman-and-yakuza-had-a-baby-japanese-gamers-have-high-expectations-for-ananta-but-copycat-gameplay-and-monetization-are-a-concern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pretty impressed overall (save for some concerned voices)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For many, the most surprising detail about ANANTA is the fact that it <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/gta-style-open-world-anime-game-ananta-will-not-have-a-character-gacha-system-netease-confirms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">won\u2019t be featuring character gacha<\/a> \u2013 contrary to what was expected given that it\u2019s a free-to-play title with anime visuals on par with gacha giants like Genshin Impact. In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/news.denfaminicogamer.jp\/interview\/2509262i\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Denfaminicogamer<\/a>, Ash, the producer of ANANTA, talked about his team\u2019s decision to forgo a gacha monetization model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"922\" height=\"519\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 922px) 100vw, 922px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250929-524530001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-52456\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250929-524530001.jpg 922w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250929-524530001-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250929-524530001-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe developed this game with the core gameplay in mind being experiencing the life of a character. In the real world, you can experience only one life, but in ANANTA, you get to experience as many different lives as there are characters,\u201d Ash explained. \u201c(\u2026) We want the player to be able to choose between characters freely and have fun experiencing many different lives. That\u2019s why we decided to make the characters obtainable through means that are not gacha.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As implied, ANANTA will have story-based segments, with each of the characters having a unique role and life in the city to be experienced. Even outside of the \u201cmain stories,\u201d the player will get to freely hang out around the city and enjoy its chaos at their own pace, switching between different characters POVs as they like. It seems the developers anticipated that a gacha system would stand in the way of the playstyle they envisioned.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"876\" height=\"494\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 876px) 100vw, 876px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250929-524530002.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-52457\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250929-524530002.jpg 876w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250929-524530002-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250929-524530002-768x433.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But does no <em>character<\/em> gacha mean all other content will be paywalled? \u2013 Well, not exactly. The producer emphasizes that \u201cthe base gameplay of ANANTA will be free-to-play,\u201d and that the team\u2019s current plans for monetization include only paid skins for characters and special limited-time content. \u201cAside from character skins, other customizable elements include house makeovers and vehicles \u2013 but basically, those will be purchasable using in-game currency. However, we are planning to release limited-time event outfits and other special stuff as paid content,\u201d Ash detailed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1152\" height=\"648\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1152px) 100vw, 1152px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250929-524530003.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-52458\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250929-524530003.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250929-524530003-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250929-524530003-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On a related topic, the demo showcased at Tokyo Game Show allowed players to experience the lives of only three characters \u2013 Captain, Taffy and Richie. However, Ash confirms that ANANTA will almost certainly be welcoming more new characters in the future. So far, we only know about Seymour from his profile on the game\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anantagame.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">official website<\/a>, but it still might take some time until we get to know additional members of the cast.
