According to the game\u2019s developers, the lengthy delay was due to Capcom spreading out its assets across multiple IPs, leading to a lack of resources for a new Onimusha game \u2013 up until recently.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/jpgames.de\/2025\/09\/im-interview-wie-man-das-20-jahre-schlafende-onimusha-zurueck-ins-leben-holt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JPGames<\/a>, producer Akihito Kadowaki reveals that many people at Capcom wanted to make a new Onimusha game for a long time. However, the size of the studio\u2019s previous projects &#8211; which include Devil May Cry 5, three Monster Hunter games, Dragon\u2019s Dogma 2, as well as two new Resident Evil titles and several remakes \u2013 required a lot of staff and time to develop. As a result, Capcom did not have enough resources to spare for a new Onimusha title.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This changed around 2020, when several core members of what would eventually become the development team for Onimusha: Way of the Sword finally assembled. In addition to finding enough manpower for the project, Capcom\u2019s proprietary RE engine was finally fine-tuned to a point where it had all the features needed to make the game. With the team and game engine in place, development for Way of the Sword began in earnest.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1532\" height=\"851\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1532px) 100vw, 1532px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250908-51749-001.jpg\" alt=\"Onimusha: Way of the Sword\" class=\"wp-image-51752\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250908-51749-001.jpg 1532w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250908-51749-001-380x211.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250908-51749-001-768x427.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Onimusha: Way of the Sword\u2019s development team consists of roughly 170 people. While the team is aware that the <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/onimusha-2-remaster-devs-decided-not-to-lower-the-skill-floor-for-performing-issen-staying-true-to-series-roots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">success of the Onimusha 2: Samurai&#8217;s Destiny remaster<\/a> has prompted requests for an Onimusha 3: Demon Siege remaster, Kadowaki says that diverting any manpower from Way of the Sword would negatively impact it.
