And according to the anime\u2019s director Kazuya Tsurumaki, the production process itself was quite chaotic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Trailer #1 (2025)\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FRgeWZO3Xn4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In a recent interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/025.teny.co.jp\/human\/interview_article\/gundam-gquuuuuux-tsurumakikazuya2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zero NiGo<\/a>, Tsurumaki shared some insights into his \u201cgo-with-the-flow\u201d approach when directing Gundam GQuuuuuuX. Apparently, the anime didn\u2019t follow a strict plan during production, and many of the scenes and story elements that ended up in the final version were actually made on the spot, as a way to spice things up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1196\" height=\"674\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1196px) 100vw, 1196px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250905-517160001.jpg\" alt=\"Gundam GQuuuuuuX\" class=\"wp-image-51719\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250905-517160001.jpg 1196w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250905-517160001-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250905-517160001-768x433.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen creating the anime, I just went with the flow. Of course, I did have a clear structure in mind for the whole show, and I wanted to try to follow it while making the anime, but I ended up making one episode at a time \u2013 if that makes sense,\u201d Tsurumaki commented. He suggests that, instead of having a comprehensive plan for all 12 episodes, he tackled each episode individually, leaving gaps for new plot developments to happen during the production process itself. \u201cIt\u2019s not like there\u2019s no structure at all, but most of the scenes depicted around climactic moments were thought up on the spot, and a lot of them ended up not following the plot we had originally planned out,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although this proved to be successful, as Gundam GQuuuuuuX has been recognized as a <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/despite-mixed-reactions-gundam-gquuuuuux-was-a-huge-commercial-success-according-to-bandai-namco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">major commercial hit<\/a>, Tsurumaki wasn\u2019t so confident about his pantsing approach initially \u2013 in fact, at the start, he was actually determined to stick to a plan, but in his pursuit of \u201csomething more interesting,\u201d production took a completely different path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1428\" height=\"807\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1428px) 100vw, 1428px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250905-517160002.jpg\" alt=\"Gundam GQuuuuuX,\" class=\"wp-image-51720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250905-517160002.jpg 1428w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250905-517160002-380x215.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250905-517160002-768x434.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI did believe that we\u2019d be able to make a good anime if we started out with a proper plan and stuck to it till the end, and that is what I initially intended to do, but as we were producing the anime, I started feeling like <em>I want it to be more interesting<\/em>,\u201d Tsurumaki explained. \u201cFor example, if we had a set plan about where and how something happens in a certain part of the story, thinking I could make it more interesting, I\u2019d just ditch the original plan completely and attempt to turn it into something much more amusing. That\u2019s how the anime ended up like this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apparently, Tsurumaki created the pitch for Gundam GQuuuuuuX thinking that many wouldn\u2019t be happy with his decision to go with a \u201cgo-with-the-flow\u201d approach, but to his relief, that wasn\u2019t the case at all.
