The game follows <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/resident-evil-requiems-decision-to-scrap-leon-kennedy-as-a-playable-character-shows-the-franchise-is-finally-stepping-away-from-hardened-and-stoic-protagonists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Grace Ashcroft<\/a> as she searches for answers regarding the death of her mother Alyssa Ashcroft, while also learning more about the \u201cdark shadow\u201d the outbreak left on the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.4gamer.net\/games\/917\/G091773\/20250828002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4Gamer<\/a>, game director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa talked about the decision to return to Raccoon City. According to Nakanishi, Resident Evil Requiem focuses on two things \u2013 Grace and Raccoon City. Both have been shaped by shocking events. Players will experience Grace\u2019s emotional journey firsthand as she uncovers the truth about her mother\u2019s death and comes to terms with her own powerlessness.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Grace\u2019s story unfolds, you will experience the aftermath of the Raccoon City outbreak and how the tragedy impacted its remaining survivors. Nakanishi says that the \u201crequiem\u201d in the game\u2019s title is a reference to how Alyssa\u2019s and the Raccoon City outbreak victims\u2019 deaths are remembered by the living.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1248\" height=\"710\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1248px) 100vw, 1248px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250829-51525-001.jpg\" alt=\"Resident Evil Requiem\" class=\"wp-image-51529\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250829-51525-001.jpg 1248w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250829-51525-001-380x216.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250829-51525-001-768x437.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Nakanishi admits that he has always wanted to properly explore the aftermath of the Raccoon City outbreak. He likens it to \u201crice left forgotten in a rice cooker for a week \u2013 something you probably don\u2019t want to open, but eventually curiosity makes you lift the lid.\u201d That curiosity finally led him back to the city as the setting for the game.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Setting Nakanishi\u2019s weird analogy aside, Kumazawa says that since Ethan Winters\u2019 story was concluded in Resident Evil Village, now is as good a time as any to return to Raccoon City. He adds that since Resident Evil features several characters and events, Capcom wouldn\u2019t be opposed to catching fans up on <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/why-ashley-graham-would-be-the-perfect-lead-to-a-potential-resident-evil-spin-off\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">their favorite elements of the franchise<\/a>.
