While this <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/resident-evil-requiems-swappable-first-person-and-third-person-perspectives-could-mean-the-franchise-is-finding-new-ways-to-scare-players\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">provides more ways to scare players<\/a>, it also widens the target audience for the next mainline Resident Evil title.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.famitsu.com\/article\/202508\/50833\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Famitsu<\/a>, Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa and director K\u014dshi Nakanishi talked at length about the decision to adopt both first and third person perspectives. While Resident Evil was <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/20240207-26883\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">initially known for third-person horror<\/a>, the successes of <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/reviews\/why-resident-evil-7-biohazards-gory-intro-is-so-jarring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Resident Evil 7: Biohazard<\/a> and Resident Evil Village proved that the first-person perspective has its own scares to share. Despite this, Capcom discovered that previous fans who were used to the third-person cameras of past games weren\u2019t interested in the newer titles because of the change in perspective. With that in mind, the developers of Resident Evil Requiem decided to adopt both perspectives so that more people would play the game.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nakanishi adds that in addition to increasing their potential audience, the dual perspective system offers players who find the first-person too scary the freedom to switch over to third-person:\u00a0\u201c\u2026 The first-person perspective is scary, so by using a third-person perspective, we hope to alleviate some of the fear.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1263\" height=\"710\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1263px) 100vw, 1263px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250828-51470-002.jpg\" alt=\"Resident Evil Requiem first-person perspective\" class=\"wp-image-51472\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250828-51470-002.jpg 1263w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250828-51470-002-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250828-51470-002-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1259\" height=\"704\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1259px) 100vw, 1259px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250828-51470-001.jpg\" alt=\"Resident Evil Requiem third-person perspective\" class=\"wp-image-51473\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250828-51470-001.jpg 1259w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250828-51470-001-380x212.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/20250828-51470-001-768x429.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite Nakanishi\u2019s statement, the developers reveal that there were no shortcuts taken when developing the game for two perspectives. When playing from the third-person, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/resident-evil-requiems-decision-to-scrap-leon-kennedy-as-a-playable-character-shows-the-franchise-is-finally-stepping-away-from-hardened-and-stoic-protagonists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">protagonist Grace Ashcroft<\/a> will stumble and fall when running away from a monster. This falling action cannot be seen or experienced in first-person, so different animations suited to the perspective were created to simulate Grace\u2019s panicked feelings.
