Its event editor lets you create events simply by placing and combining commands such as \u201chave a conversation\u201d or \u201cbranch by choice.\u201d The map editor works like a sandbox-style game, boasting a range of 3D post-effects to enrich visual expression. Supporting both 2D and 3D assets, Bakin has drawn attention as a promising new tool for creating games in the so-called HD-2D style.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1536\" height=\"864\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1536px) 100vw, 1536px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/004-3-1536x864-1.webp\" alt=\"RPG Developer Bakin\" class=\"wp-image-51366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/004-3-1536x864-1.webp 1536w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/004-3-1536x864-1-380x214.webp 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/004-3-1536x864-1-768x432.webp 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>AUTOMATON recently spoke with Nobuki Nagai, leader of the small team behind Bakin\u2019s development, to find out more about this no-code dev tool. Bakin has been in development since around 2017, and its Early Access build was released in October 2022, instantly earning a massive response from Steam users. Since then, Nagai and his team have rolled out about 15 major updates and dozens of smaller patches throughout the years, refining Bakin and adding features based primarily on user feedback.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want people to start making games without overthinking it. People tend to think that there\u2019s no point to game development if they don\u2019t make a finished product or something grand, but that\u2019s not true at all. Not everyone who draws aims to become professional. Many just do it for fun. [\u2026] Yet when it comes to games, I feel many people perceive too high a hurdle, and assume you need to create something impressive. But game-making can also be casual.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1536\" height=\"864\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1536px) 100vw, 1536px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/006-2-1536x864-1.webp\" alt=\"RPG Developer Bakin\" class=\"wp-image-51367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/006-2-1536x864-1.webp 1536w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/006-2-1536x864-1-380x214.webp 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/006-2-1536x864-1-768x432.webp 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Stressing that \u201ceven just picking it up is a victory,\u201d Nagai encourages beginners to use Bakin as their first step into game development. While more advanced users are free to go wild with customization through C# plugins, novices can make use of Bakin\u2019s Event Templates and default presets. Additionally, map creation is designed to \u201cfeel like painting a picture\u201d &#8211; you can sculpt terrain, raise or dig ground, place objects like trees and apply post-effects such as lighting and aerial perspective in real time. \u201cEven if you don\u2019t understand it at first, it\u2019s designed so that you\u2019ll gradually get a hang of it as you poke around,\u201d Nagai explains.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1536\" height=\"864\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1536px) 100vw, 1536px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/003-6-1536x864-1.webp\" alt=\"RPG Developer Bakin\" class=\"wp-image-51368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/003-6-1536x864-1.webp 1536w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/003-6-1536x864-1-380x214.webp 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/003-6-1536x864-1-768x432.webp 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-s-possible-in-rpg-developer-bakin\"><strong>What\u2019s possible in RPG Developer Bakin?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Bakin\u2019s developers were surprised to see how much potential users have drawn from the tool. \u201cI\u2019m amazed every day. In terms of quantity, I was surprised to see someone make 200 to 300 unique maps. &nbsp;There was also someone who made 100 mini games in a year \u2013 two per week, spanning RPGs, action games and quizzes, it\u2019s incredible.\u201d Nagai also saw a range of genres being made using Bakin, including side-scrolling platformers, first-person shooters, and even a Super Robot Wars-style TRPG.
