In a recent interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/news.denfaminicogamer.jp\/interview\/250819z#i-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Denfaminicogamer<\/a>, Zenless Zone Zero\u2019s producer Zhenyu Li revealed more about the process behind creating characters for the game, citing the development team\u2019s decentralized approach to problem-solving and focus on communication as essential to making interesting character designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Alice Character Demo - &quot;Sword and Waltz&quot; | Zenless Zone Zero\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Fp7tFxXMoRM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While some may expect that the characters are first created by scenario writers and then handled by the design team \u2013 in the case of Zenless Zone Zero, this process does not always follow such a one-dimensional \u201cfactory-line-like\u201d flow, Li suggests. \u201cWe don\u2019t have a single set flow in which we create characters,\u201d he says. \u201cIf we end up settling on just one fixed workflow, I believe that would only limit our ability to create interesting characters.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an example, they have recently been experimenting with the character design process by having the animation team create concepts for new characters. As the animation team\u2019s main task is bringing already existing designs to life by adding motion, having them think of interesting new movements and action first, and then building the characters around those ideas could possibly lead to some unique character designs. People who work in different departments have vastly different skillsets and approaches to problem solving, which opens the door for more innovative character designs \u2013 but only if there is good communication between the members of different teams. \u201cOur goal as a team is to create interesting characters.
