According to Ito, the context of the game does not align with the purported themes. Take note that heavy spoilers follow for Silent Hill 2 and its remake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Silent Hill 2 PC \u2014 Mannequin rape scene w\/ different camera angles\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sPLFc_FQfkk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The scene that fans are referring to involves a violent interaction between a <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/tips\/silent-hill-2-remake-how-to-survive-the-first-pyramid-head-encounter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pyramid Head<\/a> and two Mannequins. The ensuing violence \u00a0occurs \u00a0off-screen, but the way the Pyramid Head forcefully handles the Mannequins within the viewable frames leads some to believe it is supposed to be \u00a0a depiction of \u00a0sexual assault. The Silent Hill 2 remake did little to clarify the issue, as it retains the vague nature of the original scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Silent Hill 2 Remake | Pyramid rape\/kill 2 Mannequin scene [PS5]\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sMVG4ZuspPg?start=95&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ito admits that while the scene looks sexual, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/adsk4\/status\/1263249682651742208\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">it was never meant to be taken as such<\/a>. While many would <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Sasspiria\/status\/1957513510549909580\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dismiss Ito\u2019s claims<\/a> by thinking he had no involvement in the narrative, every facet of Silent Hill 2 (including the monsters) is intertwined with the story to the point that people are still discovering things about the game 24 years after it was first released. Moreover, Ito created all of the monsters and their animations, alongside all of Pyramid Head\u2019s cutscenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given the context of the story, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/adsk4\/status\/1957650108776100298\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ito openly disagrees<\/a> with the sexual assault theory. He points to the game\u2019s \u201cIn Water\u201d ending, where James drowns himself and Mary\u2019s dead body by driving his car into Toluca Lake:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It doesn&#8217;t fit James&#8217;s state of mind at all. Someone claimed that James killed Mary out of sexual frustration, but who would want to portray such a man as the protagonist of a game that had even an ending in which he committed suicide underwater with his wife&#8217;s dead body?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Ito understands that part of the beauty of Silent Hill 2 is forming one\u2019s interpretation of it, he <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/adsk4\/status\/1263285533846855680\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">doesn\u2019t want people spreading the sexual assault theory around like it is canon<\/a>. On the other hand, it is not like Silent Hill 2 has never covered the topic of sexual assault.
