Following the release of the trailer, <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/articles\/interviewsjp\/yotei-20250721-349917\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Automaton Japan<\/a> talked to Ghost of Yotei co-directors Nate Fox and Jason Connell about what they learned from developing Ghost of Tsushima, and how they utilized that knowledge to improve the gameplay in Yotei. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ghost of Y\u014dtei - State of Play Gameplay Deep Dive | PS5 Games\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cgM6poO2JmY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Fox explains that Ghost of Tsushima still hold a special place in their hearts, however, he admits that the game suffered from some problems with the pacing of the exploration and minigame segments of the game. The developers received feedback about some of the gameplay elements feeling too repetitive and monotonous. \u2018Tsushima has various minigames, but sadly some of them \u2013 especially the one where you follow a fox to a hidden shrine \u2013 don\u2019t have much variety and end up feeling like a chore. We felt this from the player feedback as well,\u201d Fox detailed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it seems like the development team has taken all the feedback into consideration in order to make Ghost of Yotei a more dynamic experience than its predecessor. Fox comments, \u201cGhost of Yotei improves [the minigame] segments in a sense that we won\u2019t be making players go through the same thing all over again whenever their curiosity leads them to encountering new secrets during exploration. We\u2019ve prepared different kinds of outcomes that could go beyond the player\u2019s expectations. We believe that the beauty of open-world games is in the exploration, so we were determined to offer players a diverse experience .\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1536\" height=\"864\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1536px) 100vw, 1536px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250722-50289-0001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50290\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250722-50289-0001.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250722-50289-0001-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250722-50289-0001-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As revealed in the State of Play trailer, Ghost of Yotei introduces a \u201cClue Card\u201d system to the series. While the full details haven\u2019t been revealed yet, it seems like the new mechanic allows you to keep track of the possible branching adventures and is designed to lead the player through the story in a way that suits their playstyle the best. As Fox and Connell say that they wanted to create \u201can open-world game that lets you drive your own experiences,\u201d it appears that the player will be playing a big role in how the adventure unfolds. While Yotei will inherit iconic side-activities like bamboo-strikes from Tsushima, the sequel will introduce new unique minigame options such as first-person Sumi-e painting or a coin-flicking game inspired by Ohajiki, a traditional children\u2019s game.
