Due to its realistic hack and slash action and bloody effects, its developers expect it to receive a CERO Z (18+) rating in Japan. Although it hasn\u2019t officially been rated yet in other regions, Capcom says that the content of the game will stay the same across all versions. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Onimusha: Way of the Sword - Official Gameplay Trailer | Summer Game Fest 2025\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VGiyzKiX9o0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.4gamer.net\/games\/865\/G086595\/20250617001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4Gamer<\/a>, Onimusha: Way of The Sword director Satoru Nihei and producer Akihito Kadowaki talked about the game\u2019s mature content and how they\u2019re planning to present it to a global audience.\u00a0 Nihei explains that the game is expected to be rated 18+ due to its gory depictions of severed body parts. This is directly related to Onimusha\u2019s new Break Issen mechanic, which allows you destroy parts of an enemy\u2019s body after staggering them. Kadowaki clarifies that the scenes were too gory to include in the game\u2019s Japanese trailer, however, this doesn\u2019t mean that the game itself will be toned down. He assures fans that all versions of Onimusha, be it the Japanese version or the international version, will be in line with the developers\u2019 original intentions for the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOnimusha: Way of The Sword was created with the idea of \u2018everybody on the globe enjoying the same game\u2019 in mind, which means that there are no differences in the domestic version and the overseas version of the game \u2013 we wanted to bring the same experience to everyone. Furthermore, there will be settings to toggle dismemberment scenes and adjust the amount of blood you see on screen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250619-492580001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49263\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250619-492580001.jpg 960w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250619-492580001-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250619-492580001-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, Kadowaki added that the \u201csatisfying swordplay\u201d of the game will also be expressed exactly the same in both Japan and overseas versions of the game, through the character of the historical Miyamoto Musashi. Kadowaki describes him as the perfect vessel to embody the feeling of hacking and slashing away in a Japanese-styled dark fantasy setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding the game\u2019s rating in Japan, Kadowaki says that the team initially intended to make separate versions that would aim for a 17+ and 18+ rating respectively. However, he remarks that 18+ versions of games just seem to be more popular among players \u2013 if a game has a \u201ccensored\u201d and \u201cuncensored\u201d version, players are more likely to go for the uncensored one. Furthermore, and most importantly, the dev team believed that the uncensored version wouldn\u2019t be able to carry the game to its full potential\u2013 which is why they decided to eventually scrap the idea of a separate, 17+ version. Finally, Nihei and Kadowaki announced that the next batch of new information and a demo version of the game will be announced in August, during this year\u2019s Gamescom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1228\" height=\"691\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1228px) 100vw, 1228px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250618-492010001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250618-492010001.jpg 1228w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250618-492010001-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250618-492010001-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While there\u2019s still some time until the official release of Onimusha: Way of The Sword, it seems like the developers are determined to convey the same experience of slick swordplay in a dark fantasy that\u2019s unique to Japan to everyone in the world.
