{"id":48921,"date":"2025-06-12T00:30:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-11T15:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/?p=48921"},"modified":"2025-06-11T17:18:06","modified_gmt":"2025-06-11T08:18:06","slug":"the-biggest-reason-for-stellar-blades-success-is-its-combat-says-former-sony-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/the-biggest-reason-for-stellar-blades-success-is-its-combat-says-former-sony-chief\/","title":{"rendered":"The biggest reason for Stellar Blade&#8217;s success is its combat, says former Sony chief\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Some attribute <strong>Stellar Blade<\/strong>\u2019s success on the PlayStation 5 to <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/stellar-blade-summer-update-increases-the-games-playerbase-by-40-percent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">its sexier aspects<\/a>, but former President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/in-my-time-pc-ports-were-prohibited-former-playstation-executive-on-how-the-platforms-approach-to-first-party-games-changed-last-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shuhei Yoshida<\/a> thinks it&#8217;s the combat that does the heavy lifting. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/game.watch.impress.co.jp\/docs\/interview\/2019239.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview with GameWatch<\/a> featuring Stellar Blade director and Shift Up CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/stellar-blades-director-has-always-wanted-to-make-a-game-like-yakuza\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hyung-tae Kim<\/a>, Goddess of Victory: Nikke director Hyung-seok Yoo and Shuhei Yoshida, Yoshida revealed that he first got to play a prototype of Stellar Blade back in 2019. Though the game was still going under the working title \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/20210914-2135\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Project Eve<\/a>,\u201d its combat was fun and engaging to the point that Yoshida offered Shift Up a Sony publishing deal (thus making Stellar Blade a timed PlayStation 5 exclusive title).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1261\" height=\"705\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1261px) 100vw, 1261px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-48921-001.jpg\" alt=\"Stellar Blade\" class=\"wp-image-48928\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-48921-001.jpg 1261w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-48921-001-380x212.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-48921-001-768x429.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Yoshida claims that while Stellar Blade\u2019s character designs, technical aspects, and graphics are second to none, it is the difficult but rewarding nature of the combat that led to it becoming so successful. A departure from Shift Up\u2019s previous work, Stellar Blade\u2019s combat combines fluid hack-and-slash gameplay with well-timed defensive dodges and counterattacks.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stellar Blade\u2019s combat has evolved since Yoshida first played it, and he commends Shift Up\u2019s dedication to absorbing player feedback and improving the game. In turn, director Hyung-tae Kim calls Yoshida the \u201cMother of Stellar Blade,\u201d as the former Sony executive was the one to notice the potential of the then-unpublished game and help deliver it to the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stellar Blade is available for PlayStation 5.
