Fox understands this and uses it to subvert player expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-489050001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48910\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-489050001.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-489050001-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-489050001-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Take for example this reverse vending machine in Deltarune Chapter 3. While players understand that the two \u201cSell\u201d commands will allow them to sell their items, they are enticed to choose the \u201cSwell\u201d command because of its similarity to the other options yet different enough that it warrants investigation. Fox bets on the player\u2019s curiosity and delivers his punchline in the next text box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-489050002.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48911\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-489050002.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-489050002-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-489050002-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Choosing the &#8220;Swell&#8221; command gives you exactly what you asked for. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite their lack of inflection, Deltarune and Undertale\u2019s verbal jokes have a very \u201cmanner-of-fact\u201d air about them. Never crass or cruel, players of all ages can appreciate Fox\u2019s wordplay. Should there be an in-game event, Fox will usually accompany it with text that either explains or comments on what just happened. As surprising as Deltarune and Undertale\u2019s humor can be, you never feel like you are not in control.
