One of the game\u2019s more polarizing points is the use of <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/tips\/clair-obscur-expedition-33-how-to-get-the-hang-of-dodges-parries-jumps-and-gradient-counters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defense options that rely on tight reaction times<\/a>. This problem has been slightly remedied in the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/news\/app\/1903340\/view\/499449376025873686?l=english\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1.3.0 update<\/a>, with parry and dodge windows being changed in Story Mode (the easiest difficulty setting).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1264\" height=\"707\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1264px) 100vw, 1264px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-48898-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48902\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-48898-001.jpg 1264w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-48898-001-380x213.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-48898-001-768x430.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Story Mode\u2019s parry and dodge windows have been increased by 40%, providing more leeway when deflecting or avoiding certain enemy attacks. To make things easier, damage taken has been reduced to 50%, decreasing how much you get hit for.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While players accustomed to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33\u2019s previously tighter defense windows will not be as affected by these changes, those who aren\u2019t as adept will appreciate them. Given the decreased damage that enemy attacks now do, players having a hard time with parries and dodges can adopt a tankier approach by allocating points into Vitality and equipping weapons, Pictos, and Luminas that favor health and damage reduction. An interesting side effect of these changes is that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33\u2019s Story Mode now plays more like a <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/tips\/how-clair-obscur-expedition-33-alleviates-some-of-the-randomness-of-turn-based-battle-systems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">traditional turn-based RPG<\/a>, where party members are more likely to take attacks head-on rather than defend themselves.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1257\" height=\"709\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1257px) 100vw, 1257px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-48898-002.jpg\" alt=\"Clair Obscur: Expedition 33\" class=\"wp-image-48903\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-48898-002.jpg 1257w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-48898-002-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/20250611-48898-002-768x433.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On top of the parry, dodge, and damage changes, the 1.3.0 update allows players to repeatedly fight the game\u2019s hardest boss, Simon, after beating him the first time. Challenge modifiers have also been added, which can be used to <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/tips\/clair-obscur-expedition-33-how-to-exceed-9999-damage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">limit max player damage<\/a> or increase enemy health values. While fighting Simon again requires players to return to The Abyss in Renoir\u2019s Drafts (touch the glowing white sword to start the fight), the challenge modifiers can be accessed from any flag checkpoint.
