Ryuki Ishii<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><br>Suda51\u2019s Grasshopper Manufacture has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grasshopper.co.jp\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced <\/a>that the company joined NetEase Games under the equity transfer agreement in May. Former parent company GungHo Online Entertainment also put out a notice (<a href=\"https:\/\/ssl4.eir-parts.net\/doc\/3765\/tdnet\/2034136\/00.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PDF<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grasshopper Manufacture is a Japanese game studio established in 1998 by Goichi Suda. The company is known for its bold and philosophical titles with unique worldviews, including <em>The Silver Case<\/em>, <em>Flower, Sun, and Rain<\/em>, and <em>killer7<\/em>. Suda51 has become an iconic industry figure ever since the overseas success of <em>killer7<\/em> and <em>No More Heroes<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After working with various publishers on games such as <em>No More Heroes<\/em>, <em>Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, Shadows of the Damned <\/em>and <em>Lollipop Chainsaw, <\/em>the company was acquired by GungHo Online Entertainment in 2013. Later, Grasshopper entered new territories by making a live service game <em>Let It Die<\/em> with GungHo, and by Suda working on <em>Short Peace: Ranko Tsukigime&#8217;s Longest Day<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent years, Suda himself has become more directly involved in Grasshopper projects again with <em>Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes<\/em> and<em> No More Heroes 3<\/em>, after the company went through structural changes in 2018. During IGN Japan\u2019s \u201cNo More Heroes 3 launch livestream\u201d back in August, when asked \u201cwhat\u2019s next for Grasshopper,\u201d Suda replied that the company is aiming to create three original IPs over the next 10 years. (Suda also mentioned his dream of making a game using Marvel IP, specifically, one that would feature a character such as Shatterstar or Quicksilver)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Garden of Madness! No More Heroes 3 launch livestream with SUDA51 \/ \u30ed\u30fc\u30f3\u30c1\u8a18\u5ff5\u751f\u914d\u4fe1\uff08PR\uff09\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fpyZ-HECDTg?start=7818&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Suda, the company was approached by NetEase to develop &#8220;unique console games together.&#8221; In the new announcement, Suda emphasized that the studio will \u201cstrive to offer three even higher-quality \u2018Grasshopper Manufacture Games\u2019 to all gamers in the next ten years.\u201d Grasshopper will retain creative control over its work, while gaining financial, development and QA support. \u201cNetEase Games will be mainly responsible for advising on our business planning activities and providing sufficient funding for game development,\u201d said Suda in the announcement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the current plan is to create three games with brand new IPs, Suda did mention in a recent interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/news\/suda-says-grasshoppers-ten-year-plan-includes-3-original-ips-maybe-some-reboots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VGC<\/a> that they might revisit their existing IP instead. \u201cWe may actually decide to do like one new, original IP \u2013 the one we\u2019re working on now \u2013 and then make a game version of an existing IP for our second game, and then go back and do another new one for the third one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now with NetEase backing the studio, the coming years will definitely be a new beginning for Grasshopper.
