The new title\u2019s Showa-era Japan setting is a distinct departure from previous entries, but Silent Hill f will also be the first game in the franchise to be rated CERO:Z (ages 18 and up) in Japan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"SILENT HILL f | Official Reveal Trailer (4K: JA\/CERO) | KONAMI\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ONp_2FNYqvM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While it\u2019s still possible for the age rating to be revised prior to the game\u2019s release, at the time of writing, Silent Hill f is the only game in the series with such a high rating, as all numbered titles from Silent Hill to Silent Hill 4: The Room have been rated CERO:C (ages 15 and up). Even the Silent Hill 2 remake, which was given a mature (17+) ESRB rating in the West, remained CERO:C in Japan. Other Silent Hill entries developed outside of Japan have been rated CERO:D (ages 17 and up) at the highest.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1340\" height=\"748\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1340px) 100vw, 1340px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/20250314-45629-he001.jpg\" alt=\"Silent Hill f\" class=\"wp-image-45636\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/20250314-45629-he001.jpg 1340w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/20250314-45629-he001-380x212.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/20250314-45629-he001-768x429.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, it might be worth mentioning the case of 2008\u2019s Silent Hill: Homecoming here. Homecoming was developed outside of Japan and initially released in the West, but it\u2019s Japanese release ended up being cancelled. The title is known for having some of the goriest depictions in the Silent Hill series, and it was appropriately given a mature ESRB rating in the West. Back when the Japanese launch was cancelled, Konami told Japanese outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/gigazine.net\/news\/20090911_silent_hill_homecoming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GIGAZINE<\/a> that they judged that the game was not suitable for the Japanese market during the localization stage (although they cited overall reasons, beyond just gory expressions, as the reason). Perhaps Homecoming would have been rated CERO:Z if it hadn\u2019t been cancelled.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1345\" height=\"750\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1345px) 100vw, 1345px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/20250314-45629-002-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/20250314-45629-002-1.jpg 1345w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/20250314-45629-002-1-380x212.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/20250314-45629-002-1-768x428.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the upcoming Silent Hill f, storefront descriptions suggest that the CERO:Z rating itself is primarily due to the game\u2019s depictions of \u201ccrime.\u201d The Steam page further warns of \u201cdepictions of gender discrimination, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, torture, and graphic violence.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a scenario written by Ryukishi07, author of the acclaimed Umineko and Higurashi When They Cry series, Silent Hill f is currently in development for the PC (<a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/2947440\/SILENT_HILL_f\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steam<\/a>\/Epic Games Store), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Silent Hill f, the latest mainline entry in the series, is rated CERO:Z or 18 plus in Japan, which is a first for the franchise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":35,"featured_media":45634,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_gspb_post_css":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[17],"class_list":["post-45629","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-japan-related-news"],"blocksy_meta":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
