First launched on February 5, 2023 by <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/craz.co\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Crazium<\/a>, the world was created as a social experiment to see how long people could keep a user-generated construct alive.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-bluesky wp-block-embed-bluesky\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"bluesky-embed\" data-bluesky-uri=\"at:\/\/did:plc:xumfzzgompecs3viil4pvfxw\/app.bsky.feed.post\/3lhcemhbiys25\" data-bluesky-cid=\"bafyreibfysr7uoyuu5v52rsbwqz4eqwbedfz7jmwcyxdc4gu53wlrjylgu\"><p lang=\"en\">The world that would be deleted in 24 hours has defied its name for 2 years now!Happy Birthday We All Go One Day!<\/p>&mdash; <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:xumfzzgompecs3viil4pvfxw?ref_src=embed\">Crazium (@craz.co)<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:xumfzzgompecs3viil4pvfxw\/post\/3lhcemhbiys25?ref_src=embed\">2025-02-03T20:21:56.689Z<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/embed.bsky.app\/static\/embed.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To add some context, \u201cThis world will be deleted in 24 hours\u201d is a world in constant danger of deletion from the VRChat servers. Upon entering Crazium\u2019s creation, players are transported to a forest where there is a giant screen with a timer on it, which counts down to the world\u2019s demise. A big red button in front of the screen allows you to reset the countdown by 24 hours (the countdown cannot be extended past one day). <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CraziumGames\/status\/1622107470213824513\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Crazium hard-coded the VR space<\/a> so that they cannot press the button to keep their creation alive, leaving the duty to the world\u2019s visitors.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">How long can a VRChat world be kept alive for?<br><br>I just released a new VRChat world that will be deleted if the timer ever reaches zero&#8230; <br><br>Will you press the button? Features within the forest like a pair of abandoned swings, a slide, and a jungle gym evoke feelings of loneliness and abandonment, prompting players to think hard before pressing that button.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a digital world where various forms of media are forgotten or deleted, it\u2019s nothing short of a miracle that \u201cThis world will be deleted in 24 hours\u201d has lasted for two years. Its survival is proof that at least one person has logged into the world every day for the last 731 days (2024 was a leap year) and pressed that red button with no expectation of a reward.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis world will be deleted in 24 hours\u201d was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.raindanceimmersive.com\/this-world-will-be-deleted-in-24-hours\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nominated for \u201cBest Immersive World\u201d at the 2023 Raindance Immersive Awards<\/a> \u2013 an awards show that highlights the work of indie extended reality (XR) creators, game developers, world builders, filmmakers, and performers. A special \u201cVR-athon\u201d was hosted on November 10, 2023, wherein people could see the changes to the world over 24 hours.
