Producer talks about Sega\u2019s project to rekindle the franchise\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.<\/strong> was released on PC (Steam) today. AUTOMATON spoke to Legacy Virtua Fighter Project producer Seiji Aoki to find out why the fighting game is coming to PC now, almost 19 years after Virtua Fighter 5\u2019s initial debut and 4 years after its PS4 port.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls src=\"https:\/\/video.fastly.steamstatic.com\/store_trailers\/257081401\/movie480_vp9.webm?t=1734066134\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Launched in the arcades back in 2006, Virtua Fighter 5 was subsequently released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007, with an enhanced remaster of the updated Final Showdown version of the game getting a PS4 release in 2021 under the title Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown. Aoki explains that Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is a port of the PS4 version, with the implementation of rollback netcode to reduce waiting times in online matches being a major addition. But why did the Virtua Fighter team decide to bring the fifth mainline entry to the PC almost two decades after its original release date?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250128-43294-002.jpg\" alt=\"Virtua Fighter 5 REVO on Steam\" class=\"wp-image-43300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250128-43294-002.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250128-43294-002-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250128-43294-002-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the Virtua Fighter series has had PC ports in the past, it has mostly been centered around arcades and console releases. Aoki explains that bringing Virtua Fighter to PC is part of Sega\u2019s project to revitalize the world\u2019s first 3D fighting game franchise.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He adds that \u201cWhen the previous game came out on PS4, we received many requests from people who wanted to play it on PC. We also got lots of feedback calling for rollback netcode, balancing adjustments and (customization) items to be added to the game, so we started thinking about making this a reality someday.\u201d Spurred on by Virtua Fighter\u2019s 30<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary, the developers at RGG Studio (of Like a Dragon fame) began concrete work on the Steam version early last year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250128-43294-001.jpg\" alt=\"Virtua Fighter 5 REVO on Steam\" class=\"wp-image-43301\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250128-43294-001.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250128-43294-001-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250128-43294-001-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Announced at The Game Awards 2024, the New Virtua Fighter Project (a brand-new untitled game from RGG Studios) is also in the works. Reflecting on the reactions to Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. and the new in-development title\u2019s announcement, Aoki reveals that they received a lot of positive feedback. \u201cI feel like the Virtua Fighter community has become very active.\u201d Aoki comments. Although he is feeling the pressure from fans\u2019 rising expectations, he seems pleased to be receiving such positive comments both from Japan and abroad.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"New VIRTUA FIGHTER Project | World Premiere Trailer\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pmeGL2JP9N0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sega has been making greater efforts to promote Virtua Fighter overseas, launching official global Discord, X and YouTube accounts. \u201cI feel like these initiatives are gradually bearing fruit, with people from overseas also playing Virtua Fighter and steaming it,\u201d Aoki adds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. was released for PC (<a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/3112260\/Virtua_Fighter_5_REVO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steam<\/a>) on January 28, 2025.
