Specifically, depictions of severed heads and limbs will be censored. While the overseas versions of the game will allow players the option to toggle dismemberment, this choice will be removed altogether in the Japanese version. Additionally, visual depictions of cut body surfaces will be altered.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curiously, Ubisoft\u2019s announcement also mentions that Shadows\u2019 Japanese version will include modifications to voiced lines compared to its overseas counterparts. No specific explanation has been given as to the nature of the changes, which has left Japanese players confused.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1398\" height=\"788\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1398px) 100vw, 1398px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250124-43169001.jpg\" alt=\"Combat scene in Assassin's Creed: Shadows\" class=\"wp-image-43173\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250124-43169001.jpg 1398w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250124-43169001-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250124-43169001-768x433.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>CERO, Japan&#8217;s rating agency, enforces strict guidelines for mature content. These guidelines have <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/shinji-mikami-slams-video-game-censorship-in-japan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a history of causing headaches<\/a> for both domestic and overseas developers. Scenes of dismemberment seem to be particularly problematic \u2013 EA&#8217;s Dead Space was infamously denied a CERO rating due to \u201cdepictions of cross-sections of severed body parts and internal organs\u201d and thus could not launch on any consoles in Japan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It seems things didn\u2019t escalate that far in Ubisoft\u2019s case, but some censorship has been implemented as a result.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ubisoft.com\/en-us\/game\/assassins-creed\/shadows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Assassin\u2019s Creed Shadows<\/a> is scheduled to be released on March 20 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Mac.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ubisoft has announced that the Japanese version of Assassin\u2019s Creed: Shadows will include censorship, unlike the North American and EU versions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":55,"featured_media":43172,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_gspb_post_css":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[18],"class_list":["post-43169","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-global-news"],"blocksy_meta":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
