{"id":43016,"date":"2025-01-21T16:48:47","date_gmt":"2025-01-21T07:48:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/?p=43016"},"modified":"2025-01-27T12:19:40","modified_gmt":"2025-01-27T03:19:40","slug":"nintendo-suspends-commercials-on-major-japanese-tv-network-amidst-sex-scandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/nintendo-suspends-commercials-on-major-japanese-tv-network-amidst-sex-scandal\/","title":{"rendered":"Nintendo suspends commercials on major Japanese TV network amidst sex scandal\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Nintendo<\/strong> announced that it will be discontinuing its commercials on Fuji Television (aka Fuji TV) following reports of a sex scandal that involves the Japanese TV network and Masahiro Nakai, who is the former leader of the boy band SMAP as well as a popular TV host, presenter, and actor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scale of the case and public outcry in response to it has caused a total of 50 companies (including Toyota and Kao Corporation) to withdraw their support for the network, with Nintendo being the latest to join the boycott (source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nikkei.com\/article\/DGXZQOUF214EX0R20C25A1000000\/?n_cid=SNSTW001&amp;n_tw=1737435375\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Nikkei<\/a>).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u30c9\u30f3\u30ad\u30fc\u30b3\u30f3\u30b0 \u30ea\u30bf\u30fc\u30f3\u30ba HD CM \u30a2\u30af\u30b7\u30e7\u30f3\u7bc7\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IEuEIZg2rSQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The allegations against Nakai started back in December 2024, when it was reported by Japanese weekly magazine Josei Seven that a dinner for Fuji TV employees had been planned by a company executive. According to another weekly magazine, Weekly Bunshun, only Nakai and a single woman ended up attending the dinner. Nakai then proceeded to sexually assault the woman and eventually paid a 90-million-yen (roughly $578,664 USD) out-of-court settlement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Nakai issued an apology on his official website, the issue has snowballed to the point where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/aseanplus\/aseanplus-news\/2025\/01\/19\/masahiro-nakai-sex-scandal-puts-japans-entertainment-industry-in-crosshairs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fuji TV hired external lawyers<\/a> to investigate the scandal, as suspicions arise that the company may have a \u201cculture\u201d of using female presenters to entertain male celebrities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moving forward, Nintendo commercials on Fuji TV will be replaced with Advertising Council Japan (AC Japan) public service announcements that come from the non-profit organization.
