This fall is likely due to the company\u2019s Strategic Update, which hinted at restructuring plans and announced the delay of <strong>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Shadows<\/strong>, the latest title in one of Ubisoft\u2019s major IPs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250110-42654-003.jpeg\" alt=\"Assassins Creed Shadows Naoe\" class=\"wp-image-42664\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250110-42654-003.jpeg 900w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250110-42654-003-380x214.jpeg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250110-42654-003-768x432.jpeg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On January 9, Ubisoft released a <a href=\"https:\/\/staticctf.ubisoft.com\/8aefmxkxpxwl\/1wUjJWUQSIVMlZbKQ2707e\/c0b1cd1c71ab30838e51d5e24764577f\/Press_release_09_01_2025_vfinal.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Strategic Update<\/a> on the investor relations section of its website. In the rather ambiguously-worded statement, Ubisoft reveals that it \u201chas appointed leading advisors to review and pursue various transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders. This process will be overseen by the independent members of the Board of Directors. Ubisoft will inform the market in accordance with applicable regulations if and once a transaction materializes.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rumors that Ubisoft could be acquired all or in part by another company have been circulating since last year. Although initial reports in October 2024 that Tencent might take over Ubisoft gave the French game company&#8217;s share price a slight boost, Ubisoft stocks have declined around 45% over the last 12 months, due to uncertainties over the company\u2019s future direction and issues surrounding its biggest game launches (source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/01\/09\/ubisoft-appoints-advisors-to-explore-options-after-buyout-report.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNBC<\/a>).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"930\" height=\"536\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 930px) 100vw, 930px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250110-42654-001.jpg\" alt=\"Ubisoft XDefiant live service shooter shutdown\" class=\"wp-image-42660\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250110-42654-001.jpg 930w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250110-42654-001-380x219.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250110-42654-001-768x443.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although framed in positive language, Ubisoft\u2019s Strategic Update contained other information that could have alarmed investors, including vague plans to restructure and cut costs. This follows on from Ubisoft\u2019s unexpected announcement in December 2024 of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/ubisoft-shutting-studios-laying-off-277-employees-as-it-pulls-plug-on-live-service-shooter-xdefiant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the closure two studios and the planned shutdown of live service shooter XDefiant<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The moving of Assassin&#8217;s Creed Shadows\u2019 release date from February to March 20 was also revealed in the January 9 Strategic Update. The reason given for Assassin&#8217;s Creed Shadows\u2019 one month delay is \u201cto better incorporate the player feedback gathered over the past three months that will enable us to fully deliver on the potential of the game.\u201d However, another reason behind this decision is probably to move the game out of February, a month that will see many major releases jostling for players\u2019 attention, including Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii and Monster Hunter Wilds.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1299\" height=\"731\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1299px) 100vw, 1299px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250110-42654-002.jpg\" alt=\"Assassins Creed Shadows\" class=\"wp-image-42665\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250110-42654-002.jpg 1299w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250110-42654-002-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/20250110-42654-002-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the second time Assassin&#8217;s Creed Shadows has been delayed, as it was originally slated for a November 2024 release. Since its announcement, the game has been caught up in various controversies about <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/assassins-creed-shadows-tatami-error-not-in-the-full-game-says-ubisoft\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">historical accuracy<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/ubisoft-agrees-to-remove-flag-from-assassins-creed-shadows-artbook-issues-overall-message-to-japanese-community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unauthorized use of imagery<\/a>, receiving much backlash on social media.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ubisoft.com\/en-us\/game\/assassins-creed\/shadows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Assassin\u2019s Creed Shadows<\/a> is scheduled to be released on March 20 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Mac.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Uncertainties around Ubisoft&#8217;s future direction and the delay of Assassin&#8217;s Creed Shadows impacts investor confidence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":61,"featured_media":42659,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_gspb_post_css":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[261,18],"class_list":["post-42654","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-financial-news","tag-global-news"],"blocksy_meta":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
