In a recent interview, <\/strong>Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake producer Masaaki Hayasaka discussed the success of the HD-2D art style introduced in Octopath Traveler, how it was implemented into the latest Dragon Quest III remake, and most interestingly, which classic SquareSoft RPG he would like to see get remade in the same style. Hayasaka\u2019s answer was Final Fantasy VI<\/strong>, a game that has seen numerous remasters and rereleases but has yet to receive the remake treatment.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Hayasaka in his interview with Inverse<\/a>, classic games like Final Fantasy VI and Dragon Quest III translate well into HD-2D because their pixel art was used as an inspiration for the style. He attributes the positive reception of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake\u2019s art style to this compatibility.\u00a0For Octopath Traveler specifically, the game\u2019s unique style was created using the original Final Fantasy VI as a reference. Since Final Fantasy VI had the highest quality pixel art at the time, he would love to see things come full circle with a Final Fantasy VI remake implementing Octopath Traveler\u2019s HD-2D style.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Final Fantasy 6 Remaster in HD-2D?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While Hayasaka states that there are currently no plans for a Final Fantasy VI remake, Yoshinori Kitase – Final Fantasy VI\u2019s director and a producer on both Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – has mentioned<\/a> that it would potentially take at least double the time to develop a Final Fantasy VI remake <\/a>in the same vein as the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, due to FFVI\u2019s large cast of characters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even remaking Final Fantasy VI into an HD-2D title would be no easy feat (as Hayasaka explains was the case with remaking Dragon Quest III<\/a>), but it could potentially be less difficult than remaking the game in full 3D. Only time will tell if Square Enix decides to capitalize on Hayasaka\u2019s wishes but from the significant response to his comments, it seems that demand for an FFVI remake is still high.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
