PlayStation 5 cover plates won\u2019t be compatible with the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro, according to a statement given to IGN<\/a> by a PlayStation representative. There will, however, be PS5 Pro console covers that will be released at a later date, which players can slap on the updated $700-console:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPS5 console covers are not compatible with PS5 Pro. However, players will be able to swap out different console covers for PS5 Pro when they become available in the future.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This statement comes in response to a Reddit thread<\/a> wherein user Zrorro<\/a> tried putting his PS5 slim Cobalt blue plates on a PS5 Pro. While the bottom plates slotted onto the PS5 Pro, the top plates did not. It seems that the teeth for the PS5 slim top plates and the PS5 Pro don\u2019t align, preventing the former from being used on the new console version.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sony\u2019s statement to IGN uses the term \u201cPS5 console covers\u201d and not \u201cPS5 slim console covers\u201d, meaning that both the original PS5 and slim covers might not work on the PS5 Pro. But seeing as they failed to mention that the slim bottom covers work just fine on the PS5 Pro, this could be an oversight.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aspiring PS5 Pro owners won\u2019t have to wait long to find out for themselves, as the console officially launches on November 7, 2024. But considering the price for the PS5 Pro<\/a>, the console\u2019s lack of a disc drive, and now the incompatibility of cover plates, people might want to wait and see if the PS5 Pro is worth it. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
