Pre-orders for Sony\u2019s PS5 Pro<\/strong> and its limited-edition 30th Anniversary variant opened earlier this week. The former is scheduled to start shipping on November 7 for $700, while the latter will follow starting from November 21 for $1,000. Given the scarcity of the limited-edition variant (only 12,300 units were made available worldwide), scalpers have been securing pre-orders and putting them up for sale on platforms such as eBay at outrageous prices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, people have reported listings anywhere between $3,000 and $10,000 for the new console. There has been a lot of frustration directed at Sony for the extremely limited production lot and seemingly \u201cunfair\u201d queue system used for pre-ordering, but it seems the company did introduce certain measures against scalping \u2013 at least, they did so in Japan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Japanese PlayStation homepage<\/a>, whoever wants to preorder the PS5 30th<\/sup> Anniversary Edition in Japan has to meet the following conditions: have a PSN account registered in Japan, and have at least 30 hours of PS4 or PS5 run time on the account between February 2014 and September 19, \u00a02024. Japanese users are thankful to see at least some measures in place, but many think that more could have been done.
