One of the game\u2019s core mechanics, the Slasher Phantom system, allows players to fight alongside up to four of their deceased past selves to overcome obstacles and enemies that would otherwise be too much for them to handle solo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hotel Barcelona - INDIE Live Expo 2024 Trailer\" width=\"1160\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/b_iFi-lnaKo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Suehiro, the Slasher Phantom system came about as a way to increase Hotel Barcelona\u2019s replayability. In addition to the stock knowledge players receive when they play and replay parts of a video game, Suehiro wanted a tangible show of progress; one that allows players to \u201cbring the timeline you played to the next round.\u201d The Slasher Phantom solved this problem, providing players with the most reliable backup: themselves.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1246\" height=\"700\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1246px) 100vw, 1246px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/20240820-35703-001.jpg\" alt=\"Hotel Barcelona\" class=\"wp-image-35706\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/20240820-35703-001.jpg 1246w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/20240820-35703-001-380x213.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/20240820-35703-001-768x431.jpg 768w\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Hotel Barcelona<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Creating multiple versions of the same character and putting them onscreen at the same time is easier said than done, as Suehiro discovered when developing Hotel Barcelona. Slasher Phantoms would activate platforms before the player-controlled character, causing unintended deaths. While Suehiro and the rest of the Hotel Barcelona developers at White Owls Inc. eventually solved these problems by limiting the number of objects the Slasher Phantoms could affect, it was still a difficult task to undertake.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hotel Barcelona still has an unknown release date but its premise is quite unique. As rookie federal marshall Justine, players must navigate an isolated hotel full of the country\u2019s most evil serial killers. Justine also seems to be possessed by a serial killer herself, as the insane Dr. Carnival allows her to create Slasher Phantoms that act as allies and decoys.
