It turns out, the game\u2019s floor gimmicks (or at least, their intensity) were influenced by none other than FromSoftware\u2019s Elden Ring.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Square Enix and Live Wire\u2019s life simulation RPG Harvestella launched in November 2022 (eight months after Elden Ring), bringing a compelling blend of farming sim mechanics, exploration, combat and storytelling. As you progress in Harvestella, you face off against enemy bosses and FEAR, but the game\u2019s level design itself is often out to get you and your party too, namely \u2013 the floors.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1335\" height=\"756\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1335px) 100vw, 1335px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/20240723-34519-001.jpg\" alt=\"Harvestella\" class=\"wp-image-34524\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/20240723-34519-001.jpg 1335w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/20240723-34519-001-380x215.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/20240723-34519-001-768x435.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Damage floors need to be avoided, or when inevitable, traversed as quickly as possible with the help of items. However, it seems these gimmicks were originally meant to be a lot tamer, as revealed by Harvestella&#8217;s lead planner and level designer Miyamoto. In a post on his <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/miyamotoclub\/status\/1815388509567627759\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">personal X account<\/a>, Miyamoto recently commented, \u201cOne tidbit about Harvestella \u2013 after playing Elden Ring, I doubled the damage dealt from floor gimmicks.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, this was not simply a devilish deed without meaning, as the developer goes on to explain that the boost in difficulty was a way to raise the importance of items such as Apple Juice and other dishes that guard you from Floor Damage, thus boosting the player\u2019s sense of satisfaction upon successfully preparing for and conquering the challenge. Looking back at the decision, Miyamoto says that he is personally glad to have implemented the change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1338\" height=\"751\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1338px) 100vw, 1338px\" src=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/20240723-34519-002.jpg\" alt=\"Harvestella\" class=\"wp-image-34526\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/20240723-34519-002.jpg 1338w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/20240723-34519-002-380x213.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/20240723-34519-002-768x431.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although he does not go into detail regarding what specific parts of Elden Ring influenced him, it\u2019s easy to imagine the developer finding inspiration from the FromSoftware title\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/20240222-27583\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">iconic swamps<\/a> and traps that afflict the player with Scarlet Rot and Poison status effects.
