Replying to a social media post from X user jermaine611, Harada comments that while the feature was something he wanted since Tekken 6, its inclusion in Tekken 7 and Tekken 8 has caused problems in offline competitions. With this in mind, Harada and the rest of the Tekken development team are working on adding an option that allows players to randomly choose their side in matches.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I had wanted to realize that idea since TEKKEN6, but it was eventually realized in TEKKEN7.<br>However, because of that system, many players have trouble getting used to playing on the 2P side and have a hard time in offline competitions.<br>So the option to randomly decide the playing\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9z7kSmWAN0\">https:\/\/t.co\/9z7kSmWAN0<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Katsuhiro Harada (@Harada_TEKKEN) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Harada_TEKKEN\/status\/1808329781064487091?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 3, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Most 2D and 3D fighting games have each player controlling their character from a specific side of the screen. However, Tekken 7 and Tekken 8 are unique in that they allow players to pick which side they want to play on regardless of what the other player chooses. This means that two opposing players can both play on the Player 1 (i.e. the left) side without worrying about adjusting their inputs. While this makes it easier for players to keep their inputs consistent, Harada recognizes that sharing the same screen in an offline tournament, or switching sides in the middle of a fight, can put some players in extremely uncomfortable situations.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" src=\"http:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/20240704-33492-001.jpg\" alt=\"Tekken 8 Lili vs King\" class=\"wp-image-33497\" srcset=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/20240704-33492-001.jpg 900w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/20240704-33492-001-380x214.jpg 380w, https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/20240704-33492-001-768x432.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Tekken 7 and 8 currently ask players which of the two sides (left or right) they prefer before choosing their characters and stages. While this option is welcome for most players, those who want to practice playing both sides have no easy option to do so. The only way this is possible is by opting out of the character select screen and choosing the preferred side manually. The developers most likely aim to add a \u201cRandom\u201d or \u201cEither\u201d option to the side select screen that will remove the need to return to it after every match.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some people have <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RogueportGCC\/status\/1808351424423600223\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voiced their support<\/a> for Harada\u2019s planned improvements as they will help stop newer players from forming bad habits. Others <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/tremmuh\/status\/1808583054136651860\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reminded players<\/a> that they should be practicing combos from both sides of the screen because it is inevitable that you will end up switching at some point during a match. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s interesting is that there are a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Bluebolt777\/status\/1808342755632205911\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">few commenters<\/a> who talk about losing matches if they happen to end up on the side they are not used to playing on. This further emphasizes the point Harada made about being able to choose sides and the importance of adding new side options in the future.
